May 16...same day...

LEXI'S POV

"You know, she's got a temper as fiery as her hair is red." Caroline cackled. She was talking about Kayla which only made me angry.

I was reaching out to take the dagger when I noticed the faint glimmer of something. Something like an invisible wall. Or more like a force field...I retracted my hand and looked around warily.

"I'm not the only one." A young voice snickered. A voice, I would recognize anywhere. The voice that belonged to the person I knew better than I knew myself. Kayla.

I looked right at where her voice came from and she appeared right there, on the back of a black winged creature, who I'm sure looked terrifying before Kayla got her hands on him. Now the poor creature looked plain terrified.

Kayla looked at Harry when she spoke, but she was talking to Caroline. "Harry here doesn't take too kindly when someone threatens me and Lexi's life and he's about to make me look like a baby bunny." she giggled. She looked at Caroline and gave her her sweetest smile. "You're about to get your ass kicked."

I shook my head at her and smiled, relief flooding my emotions. She was safe, she was on the back of a demon... but she was safe.

I heard the sound of screeching and bodies hitting the ground. I turned around and the demons that had had Bridgett, Liam and Harry were now lying in the snow, under three other demons, who each had a member of the Cyneward straddled to their back.

Bridgett, Liam and Harry were free and Harry was at my side in an instant. I looked around, and slowly, one by one, the members of the Cyneward as well as some members from the Friedhelm appeared all around us, forming a giant circle.

Conrad and Derrick were just behind Caroline, on the backs of the two largest demons. Caroline was turning as each person was revealed, finally her eyes locked on Conrad's. Conrad was glowingly boastful and smiled as he spoke "Good to see you again Merle!"

"Wish I could say the same." She snarled.

The rest of the demons around Caroline looked terrified at the sight of the other demons in such a weak and helpless state. Within seconds they had all taken off, leaving Caroline alone.

"I'll kill you all! I swear I will! You cowards!" she shouted angrily.

Harry stepped up in front of me and Kayla, hands balled up at his sides. Liam, Niall, Zayn and Louis all took places by his side.

“You're not so scary now are you?”

They were all face to face with her, but Caroline was staring straight at me, evil glinting in her shiny black eyes.

Her wings fluttered, sending waves of freezing air at our faces, but her feet stayed planted on the ground. With the new view of her wings I could see spots of white in her wings, something that gave me a spark of hope. And sometimes all it takes is a spark to ignite a fire.
