'Ryden' were getting ready at Ryans, and as Ryan waited for his boyfriend to arrive, he thought about how happy he was. Because dancing and parties and midnight dates were good, but so was sitting on your kitchen counter drinking chocolate milk, perfectly secure in the knowledge that his boyfriend would be at the door when he said he'd be.
The doorbell rang.

When Ryan opened the door, Brendon was waiting behind it, a huge bag in one hand and a box in the other.
"Oh. My. God. Look what I found." He exclaimed, pushing past him into the house.
"What?"
Brendon held out the box. "The Polaroid project."

Back when they had first started their not-so-secure relationship, Brendon had a Polaroid camera. They had taken lots of photo's together, scribbled dates across the bottom in sharpie, and stuck them into a box for when Brendon finished moving into his new bedroom, aka the garage. He had then lost the box. And now, apparently, found it.

"Wanna look through them?" Brendon asked as he took his shoes off.
"Don't we have a party to get ready for?"
"We can be late to that. Polaroids are more important."
"If you say so."

They got up to Ryans room and Ryan immediately went to put on music, playing Brendon's playlist.
"Y'know," Brendon had taken his shirt off because they were meant to be getting changed. No other reason. "It might be all the romance movies I've been watching, but I think that I love you and that I couldn't live without you."
"Definitely too many romance movies."
"Well...," Brendon dragged out the 'l' "How many is too many?"
"More than zero."
"Bullshit. Anyway, I swear you liked The Fault In Our Stars."
Ryan blushed slightly. "No, I didn't, I liked watching you watch it."
"See!" Brendon waved his finger at his boyfriend. "That is even cheesier than the film itself."
"Shut up and look at polaroids with me, idiot."
"Your idiot?"
Ryan laughed "Would it make you happy to be my idiot?" At this point, he wasn't even saying this to flirt, but mainly to make fun of Brendon.
Only Brendon leaned his head onto his shoulder "mmm-hmm."
Ryan's heart melted, or that's how Brendon put it, because of all the romance movies, and kissed his forehead. "Then you're my idiot."

Patrick had been the first to arrive at Franks, and he wanted to be having the night of the year, he wanted to share the same Halloween infatuation as the birthday boy, but he couldn't. He didn't want to be in a mood but every little thing seemed to annoy him. Frank was happy, and he wanted anything but to begrudge him this, his childhood dream was coming true and Patrick was just pissed off. It wasn't fair on either of them.

Frank and Jamia were actually currently outside, putting up fairy lights while it was still light out. No one knew why Frank was assigned the role if putting things in high places, but, whatever.

Gee came and sat beside him on the sofa.
"Hey, you okay?"
"I'm fine. Just not in the best mood and I feel like I should be."
"It's okay. You want cheering up or is everything just annoying you?"
Patrick shook his head slightly, wondering how Gee got that. "Annoying."
"What me to leave."
"No. You're good, you make me feel better."
Gee grinned at him and moved their legs up, as though to cross them, then realised they were wearing a skirt and decided against it.

"Anyway," they asked. "Approve of my costume?"
"Yeah," Patrick smiled.
"That's all?"
"It's hot?" He admitted, trying not to sound like he was deadly serious.
"But am I not always hot?"
"You suit, uhh, effeminate clothing or makeup."
Gee properly smiled at that, all teeth. "That's very straight, Patrick."
"You are literally in a miniskirt. You are in no position to be judging other peoples sexuality."
"Yeah but the skirt looks good on me and is making you question your sexuality, so who's the winner here."
Patrick rolled his eyes. "I am so not into you."

But first it was dreams of Pete and now it was thinking Gee in skirts and makeup was hot, so Patrick's head was spinning and he was questioning everything he'd thought about himself. He was straight. 100%. Then he thought back to his annoyance and thought about how Frerards flirting had put him on edge and fuck this. This wasn't meant to happen.

The doorbell interrupted his thoughts, and Frank called from the back garden.
"Gee? Get that for me?"
Gee got up immediately. "Of course, baby."
There was a small crash, then Franks voice yelping slightly, "Did you just call me baby?"
Gee laughed as the doorbell rang again.
"Try not to die."

They opened the door to Mikey and Pete, and the costume was obviously Pete's ideas as he got to be in classic black jeans and top, and Mikey was dressed as a unicorn. A unicorn. He had glittery makeup on, complimenting white jeans and shirt, and some sort of horn stuck onto his head. It was ridiculous, camp, and kind of suited him in an unexpected way. Pete was on his back.

"I like it," Gee told them, grinning at their brother.
"Do you get it?" Pete asked. "I'm riding him!"
"Bad news guys Halloween is cancelled."
"Rude."
"Your Halloween costumes a gay joke."
"It's actually a reference to our first date."
"Same thing."
"Bitch."
Gee laughed and moved aside, letting them in.

Ryan and Dallon had also been invited to the great Birth-ween, well, Frank had mentioned that Ryan was welcome during rehearsal, only half-seriously, and Dallon knew he could definitely fuck stuff up at this party, and have a great time doing it, so he was attempting to convince his boyfriend to go crash a party, in full costume.

"Look, babe, I was barely invited, and you weren't at all." Ryan was refitting a string on his guitar, crosslegged on his bed, in was could only be described as pyjamas, so not exactly a look. "It'll be fun, though."
"I'm not crashing Frankies birthday, Halloween, whatever, party."
"What about when people are drunk enough not to care."
"We're talking about the same people, right?"
"Brendon Urie?"
"Patrick Stump."
"Point taken."
Ryan caught his eye and he laughed, and he wanted to say yes, to have a fun Halloween, perhaps if he'd known any one of lies Dallon had been told, he would have tried harder to convince him it was a bad idea, but he knew nothing, that was the point, if he was less naive he wouldn't even be in this situation. Ignorance is so blissful it outweighs doubt.

"How about I text Frank, ask if we're still invited?" Ryan finally chose a compromise.
"Sure, and if its not too late can we be Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Chrismas."
"It's a little late."
"I might already have the costumes in my bag..."
"Dallon!"
"No time for complaining, just time to look fabulous."
"Frank might not even say yes,"
"So we'll just take Halloweeny selfies and make it look like we have friends?"

But, of course, Frank said yes, because he was a genuinely good person, who really wanted a good Halloween party, and actually did like that Ryan guy now he came to think of it.

"So?" Dallon teased "We're going,"
"Yeah, Franks a sweetheart, do we need to bring him a present?"
"Shit, probably," Dallon paused in his painting of Ryans face, Ryan looked amazing, of course, the dress really brought out his hair and the half-finished makeup made his skin almost glow, y'know, the way oatmeal does. "Last minute chocolate?"
"It's Halloween, last minute food is definitely all gone."
"What do you propose then, oh Queen of Halloween town?"
"I don't know," Ryan tried to put one hand up to his face in despair, but Dallon caught his wrist.
"You'll smudge the makeup, don't you dare facepalm."
"Fine, but I have a question. Does kissing smudge my makeup?"
"It does, but I think I can forgive you for it"
"You can?" Ryan tilted his head, looking at Dallon with a glint in his eyes.
"Just about..." Ryan laughed and linked his hands around the back of his boyfriend's neck, and Dallon kissed him.

When they broke apart it hit him, that he hadn't been thinking about Brendon, they were getting ready for a party that Dallon wanted to go to primarily because his ex-boyfriend would be there, but he was the furthest thing from his mind.

"What?" Ryan asked, sensing something was different. Dallon kissed him instead of explaining, and Ryan was too infatuated to take it a rebuff.
