Accidents make perfection

Chapter 3

When I get to her apartment I hesitate before I knock, but then get over my nerves and knock three times on the door. Evangeline and I have gotten closer over the months not that close but close, we spar together a lot and we went out to lunch once not too long ago. When the door opens I'm greeted by Elane she gives me a warm smile "Hello Mare, what brings you here?" She says in her usual warm tone "is Eve there?" I ask. I only use her nickname when I'm with Elane because Evangeline hates when I use it. She says only Elane and Ptolomus can use it. "Here come in I'll get her for you." She says. When I step in she closes the door and leaves to go get Evangeline. I look around admiring their apartment, its got all white walls and gold accents with a bit of black in some places. I can tell Elane decorated but obviously Evangeline needing some input in the room.

After a while Evangeline comes into the room with a smile on her face, I rarely see this side of her "Hey Mare, you wanted to talk to me?" She says and gesture's for me to sit down with her on the couch. I sit and decide to ask about her mood "why do you look so happy?" She just laughs "Elane and Ptolomus just got divorced" she says. I'm a bit confused but then I remember their situation "well congrats I guess" I say "thank you, so what was the thing you wanted to talk to me about?" She asks so start to explain to her what's happening "Davidson was supposed to go to Norta next week but now can't because he's going to pick up their adopted daughter with Carmadon and asked if I would take his place" she just looks at me still with a smile and says "well are you going to?" I look down at my hands and say " I think so but... I'd like you to come with me" her face immediately changes to the serious stoic Evangeline I know "Mare no I'm not going back even if my parents aren't there I need to move on, and going there isn't going to help that" she says I'm about to respond but then Elane pops out from around the corner with drinks  "Eve you and I both know that's not true"  she says, Evangeline looks at her with sad eyes and grabs the drink chugging it as fast as she can. When she's done Elane continues "if you go back it could mean closure for you and me, we can see how it's changed and maybe feel like we made a good choice by helping the rebellion. And for your parents death." I can see Evangeline wants to storm out of the room but Elane has control of it and her"I...I don't think I'm ready." She says and it surprises both Of us. Before Elane says anything else I step in "and that's why I want you to come, I'm not ready to see Cal after what I did to him or be in Archeon after what Maven did to me, but it's been 8 months, if we don't go now we might never be able to. So please come with me, we'll be talking war most of the time anyways." She looks at me and then at Elane. She takes a deep breath and says "fine, but I want Elane to come with me." I look at Elane and she just smiles "sure I'd be ok with that, I left somethings behind I'd like to retrieve anyways." She says, thank god she was here "thank you both I'll send you the details, I think we'll have to attend a briefing before we leave" I say while getting up to leave when I get to the door I give them both a hug and walk out.

Is I'm walking down the stairs I hear someone calling my name "Mare wait!" I turn around and see Elane, she hugs me again and whispers in my ear "thank you, I thought I'd never be able to get her to go back." When we separate I giver a confused look "why did you want her to go back" I ask genuinely curious "She hasn't been the same since we got here, she doesn't eat as much and she's always canceling on people. The only time she acts normal is around you." I'm shocked by what she says. The only time she's normal is around me? "Why?" I say out loud though I was just asking myself "because you're the only piece of Her past she has other than me but I wasn't part of the war. If she goes back she might finally let go of it all and be herself again." She says answering my question. She's probably right though, maybe it will help me too, by seeing Cal maybe it will stop my nightmares "well it was no problem, it'll be nice to have you guys there with me" I say with a smile. We hug again and say a final goodbye.

As I'm walking home I realize I forgot about what the most important people in my life would think of this. Once that thought come to my head I'm in front of my house. I hesitate before walking in, I don't know what they'll think of all this but I have to go, for me and Evangeline. I'm dreading every moment of this night now, I'm going to have to tell them before someone else does. I have to tell my family.
