Chapter 45

Hey guys I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, I know this may sound repetitive but it's been a crazy few months writing this story, and to think I wasn't even going to post it. This is just a short bonus chapter for you guys so that the next one that will be uploaded Monday can be a time jump and the final chapter of this story. I love all of you and if you want me to write a story set after Broken thrown's Fire Light short story to fill in the blanks just ask and I will. My next story will coming soon once I find a good book I think needs more to finish it. And without further ado Chapter 45;

Farley POV

I get out of the building and run to Elane Bree and Evangeline "thank god" Bree says and hugs me "Are you guys ok?" He asks and I nod "where's Cal?" Eve asks "still down there" I say "no he's not" Elane says and turns the kids around and grabs their hands getting ready to run "Run" I say and we do "daddy!" Cori yells and Iris sees us. Cori starts to run towards him "no Cori!" I yell after her and grab her arm, but she sends an electric shock through me and I fall on the ground in excruciating pain, shaking uncontrollably. She keeps running after her father and there's nothing I can do. Evangeline makes a sort of stretcher for me out of metal and brings me over to another building with the rest of them "you all stay here, I'm going to get Cori" she says I can see Elane wants to object but thinks better of it. She kisses her and leaves.

Evangeline POV

I leave to go and get Cori who went after her father, I laugh to myself at how much she's like her mother. I hide behind a giant crate and peek to see what's happening. I see Mare standing in a circle of fire, and Cal drowning in a bubble of water, then I see something move in the corner of my eye, I peek to the left a little and see Cori sneaking behind crates trying to get closer. Then I hear the cocking of a gun and look back to the action "what is she doing?" I whisper to myself, she's holding a gun to her head like she's going to kill herself. Then It clicks, she's trying to save Cal by threatening to kill herself. I look back to Cori and I see her with her hand on her mouth crying silent tears, this is not something a child should see their mother do. Then all of a sudden the fire circle drops and I can hear them talk "fine" he says and waves to iris to put Cal down but she doesn't move "Iris" he says and she replies with "no, my mission is to kill Mare and Cal and this is perfect, she kills herself and I kill him" I see the hope leaving Mares eyes, she knows that if he dies she can't, she made an empty threat. "Iris your orders come from me, let him go" Maven says but she stays determined "no" she says shaking her head "ugh! Why are women so exhausting!" Then I feel the metal of a gun move, I look at Maven who moves faster then I've ever seen him and fires the gun, everything goes in slow-motion, the gun fires the bullet moves Mare turning to make sure it's not at Cal, Iris trying to move fast but gets hindered by Cal, I watch the bullet I could have stopped pierce her skin, then I see Cori running towards Maven, I start to run too but I'm too slow Maven grabs her and lights his hand on fire she screams and Mare looks back from Cal who I can't tell if he's dead or not. She gets up and runs to her, now Maven is in between me and Mare "Let her go!" She yells but he laughs "no way" he says and looks at me "why hello there Lady Samos how are you" he asks as the gentlemen he tries so hard to be "could be better" I say and he laughs "well my day has been horrible, talk about plans not going how they were supposed to" he says making casual conversation with us. Cori tries to grab his wrist to shock him but he lights it ablaze and she yelps away "Cori!" Mare yells "I'm sorry" Cori says "shut up rat" he says to her and she starts crying more "don't call her that" Mare says and I see that that comment made her mad. That word means so many things to her, I've used that word before on reds and new bloods. I feel bad that I did but I didn't know any better at the time "well she fits the word small and insignificant" he says and Mare about looses it. I look over to where Cal was and he's not there anymore, I look around and see him behind Maven creeping up slowly. I look at Mare with desperate eyes and make as small a gesturer as I can to him and she gives such a small look that it can barely be noticed. "Maven, you don't have to do this" I say and he laughs "you're so stupid aren't you" he says and Mare gets ready to grab Cori "Maven, I don't love you anymore and after this even if I do give in you're still going to go be killed by the government of Montfort." She says and he smiles "better make it count" he says and grabs a knife from his pocket but drops it and Mare grabs Cori and pulls her away hugging and calming her. Behind them Cal stands there with a knife in his brothers back, a symbol of their rivalry.

Cal POV

I did it, I stabbed him but he's not dead yet. I lay him on the ground and he looks at me and smiles a genuine smile "I knew you'd do it, I always knew you'd be my downfall" he says and I feel water hit my face, no wait I'm crying "I'm sorry Mavey" I say and he laughs "it's nice to hear that name, though I don't remember a time where you used it... it's nice" he says and I put my hand behind his head keeping it up "thank you" he says "for what?" I ask and he laughs but doesn't say anything else. I don't know if he was trying to hurt me or if he was being serious but either way I feel the death all over again. I look over at Mare and Cori and walk towards them, Mare looks at me with Cori in her arms and I take Cori from her, she wraps her legs around me and hugs my neck. Mare comes and hugs me too and I stay there for a while with my daughter and the women I love, two people I care about that I couldn't keep safe. I can't imagine what this will do to Cori in the long run but after being through much worse myself my hopes are high. After a while I realize Eve left and I guess to get the kids, I kiss Mare and Cori and put her down, she hugs my leg and I look at Mare and start to cry "I'm sorry, I couldn't keep you guys safe" I say and she wipes away my tears "I'm sorry you had to go through that" she says referring to Maven, she knows what it's like to kill him, the pain you feel for the boy who was lost and scared. We stare into each others eyes until I see the rest of the kids come running towards us, I see Cori and she looks overwhelmed so I pick her up and she nuzzles herself into my shoulder. Mare says hi to the kids hugging them as hard as she can, Matt then comes over to me and stands in front of me, he looks at the ground and walks slowly to me and hugs me, he still wants to look strong for me, but that's not what I want. I bend down and look at him "you don't need to keep it in buddy, let it go" I say ad he starts to cry and hugs me as hard as he can not wanting to let go. I look up and see Bree, Elane, Evangeline, and Farley all consoling their children.
