Chapter 44

Cal POV

I've never seen her this angry before but the determination in her eyes is a good sign I think? "Let's go to the kids I think she's got this" Farley says and I nod but I keep watching them fight "Cal now" she says and I rip my eyes away and start running to the building before anyone else can. We get there and my heart sinks "where are the guards?" I say and Farley points down the hall and I look against my better judgment and I see them all dead on the ground with water everywhere "Iris" I say and start to run to the floor where the kids are "how did she get in" Farley says panic in her voice "I don't know, who did you send to watch the kids?" I ask "Bree and Elane" she says and that gives me some sort of relief but then the nerve comes back when I see her drowning a guard. In that moment I don't know what to do, I don't have my flammakers but even if I did they would do nothing, the only thing I have is the element of surprise. So I just run and tackle her.

Bree POV

I'm not too concerned about them getting down here, the security is so strong, even I could barely get down. The kids have fallen asleep which is good, the less they know the better "are you nervous?" Elane asks me "not really" I say and rub my daughters head pushing her hair out of her face "are you?" I ask her and she nods "Eve is up there, and I can't help her" she says and I can see the pain in her eyes "you're helping by keeping your daughter safe" I say and she sighs "ya" she says then we hear something "what was that?" She asks and I listen and it goes again, then my dread comes and I recognize the sound, as soon as I do, the door dead locks and the red light comes on "they're in" I say and I get pumped with adrenaline "wake up the kids" I say but she stops me "no if we wake them they'll get scared and might be scarred for life for no reason" she says "but if we don't they'll be sleepy and tired and won't be able to defend themselves" I say and she nods "fine" she says and we wake them up. They are all cranky but it's like they already know something is wrong so they listen and follow our orders. We get them all siting at the back of the room and I start to explain in the least detail possible what I need them to do "you guys need to stay quiet, no matter what happens stay quiet. Do not leave this room unless we tell you to, do as we say. Help each other, don't use your abilities unless absolutely necessary and do not under any circumstance break any of these rules do you under stand" and they all nod "what's happening?" Matt asks "just trying to be as safe as possible ok" I say with a smile and a wink and they giggle. I get up and go to the screen and turn them on so we can see what's going on through the cameras "are they close" Elane asks when I finally get them on and I see something I was not expecting "um... you mean she" I say and Elane comes over and looks "oh my god, is that Iris?" She asks and I slowly nod my head. All I see is water filling the hallways and soldiers drowning "what are we gonna do?" She asks and I really don't know, if we stay in here then we could drown, but if we leave we will still drown "how many people can you make disappear?' I ask her and she thinks for a second "three" she says but we have seven kids which means one will have to be seen but which "Clara" I whisper in disappointment she's the only one who will be able to defend herself the best "what?" She asks "we'll have to do two trips you take three at a time and I'll take Clara with me" I say and she looks at me like I'm crazy "look we can't stay here, our best bet is to get them out the best we can and right now you have to do it" I say and she nods "I'll take the twins and Cori first"she says and I nod. I unlock the door and tell the guards what's happening and they agreed to be a distraction just in case.

Elane POV

"You guys can't say a word no matter what" I say and they nod "you hold each others hands so you don't get lost, you won't be able to see each other or yourselves so you need to trust your instincts" I continue and I stand up and grab the twins in both my hands and Cori grabs Tylers hand "ready?" Bree asks and I nod "the guards will be with you if need a distraction" he says but the nerves start to rise "it'll be fine" he says and rubs my shoulder, he gives hugs to the kids and says goodbye. Then we leave, only half the guards came with us the rest stayed for the second trip, I make us disappear and the guards lead the way. We make it up two flights of stairs and now we only have three to go "how many more stairs?" Tyler whispers but thankfully Cori answers for me "three but shhhhh" she says. Then the guards stop and one looks in the hallway "she's here" one says and a chill runs down my spine "you go ahead ma'am we'll distract her, I tap him on the shoulder saying thank you in morse code and he nods. We start to make our way up the next flight of stairs and I can hear the guards screaming "are they ok?" Tori asks but I don't answer and hurry them along. Finally we get to the main floor but there are dead bodies everywhere "close your eyes" I say to them and I check to make sure they do, and we start to walk through the hallway to get to the doors, there are so many dead bodies that it's hard to avoid being near them, Tyler end up tripping on one but Cori and I keep him up. Finally we get out "ok open your eyes"I say to them and they do, I look around to try and find a place for them "Elane!" I hear someone call, I look over and it's Eve all bruised and cut "oh my god Eve what happened?" I ask checking her all over "Iris, what are they doing up here?" She asks "Iris is down there" I say and her eyes go wide "where's Angie?" She asks "down with the rest of them I need to go get them now, watch the kids" I say and hand them to her "but Elane..." she starts but I don't listen I just keep going.

Bree POV

I locked the door behind Elane just in case, I've been watching the cameras and saw that Elane was coming back but then I see something out of the corner of my eye and look at the camera for the other stair case and see Farley and Cal coming down "mommy?" Clara says and I see that she's been watching the screens "no no no don't look at the screens" I say picking her up and putting her back with the others "are mommy and uncle Cal going to be ok?" She asks "yes they'll be fine, now Elane is coming back so you guys need to be quiet when we leave, no talking, no asking questions, no sound at all you got me?" I say and they all nod "now Angie, Matt, and Silvia you guys are going with Angies mom Clara you are going to be with me, under no circumstance will you break from your groups or let go of each others hands got that" I continue and they all nod "I'm scared" Silvia says and I bring her in for a hug "I know but you need to be brave for mommy and I" I say "I'm back" Elane says coming in through the door "ok lets go"

Farley POV

As soon as he sees her he runs and tackles her, I give it to him he got her good but what's he planning to do next. I draw my gun and point it at Iris getting ready to shoot her but Cal keeps punching her and getting in the way so I can't get a clear shot "you Fucking Bitch!" He yells and I suppress the urge to call him on his language but i remember there are no kids here, plus she deserves it. Although now I wish he had used something stronger. Finally she gets a spot to get her ability going and throws him across the room, I start to shoot but she puts a huge vat of water in front that slows down the bullets enough for her to dodge, but then behind her I see someone move. I stop shooting so she brings down the water but Cal tackles her again, then I see who It is "Clara?" I whisper under my breath and she see's me and she disappears and reappears next to me and hugs me "Mommy!" She says but she can't be here "no Clara go back, you can't be here" I tell her but she just holds on harder "mommy" she says quieter I mouth to Bree to move and go to the top and he nods "bad idea Diana" Iris says and comes for Clara but Cal pulls her back and she punches him in the face but he grabs the fabric on her shoulders and slams her on the wall "RUN!" He yells and I do as he says and run as fast as I can.

Mare POV

I keep hitting him as hard as I can but he's gotten fast, luckily so have I. Not with my lighting but with my movements, most of our fighting is hand to hand combat with me having fists full of lighting and him having fists a blaze. "You've gotten better" he says wiping the blood from his mouth "and you've gotten rusty" I say and run at him full speed and shoot as much electricity as I can at him, but he puts a fire wall in front of him blocking some of it but some gets through and now he's seizing on the ground "sad, thought you'd be harder to beat" I say and he smiles while jolting in all directions "what?" I say and he slowly points behind me, I turn slowly and see Cal getting spun in a bubble of water slowly drowning "Cal!" I scream and run to him but Maven puts a giant circle of fire between me and Cal enclosing me with Maven "Mare you need to see things clearly, see them properly. He betrayed you too many times, he killed thousands of reds in the war." Maven says but I can't give in I have to save Cal the only way I know how "you tortured me for six months, killed your father, slaughtered newbloods adults, children, and infants and betrayed me. I could never love you again after that." I say but he just sighs in frustration "I did those things because you wouldn't listen, you know you are just so stubborn sometimes" he says angry now, but this is what I wanted "I know" I say and point my gun at my head "which is why I'm doing this" I say "what are you doing?" He says walking towards me "NO! Stay back! One more step I pull the trigger." I say and he steps back "Mare don't be stupid" he says and I laugh "I'm not being stupid, let him go or I shoot" I say and he stops for a second "fine" he says and signals to Iris to let him go but she doesn't "Iris" he says but she stands firm "no, my mission is to kill Mare and Cal and this is perfect, she kills herself and I kill him" she says and that's not what I wanted to hear "Iris your orders come from me, let him go" Maven says but she shakes her head "no" she says "ugh! Why are women so exhausting!" He yells and grabs his gun and shoots her, she has no time to react and she drops dead. The bubble holding Cal drops and I run to him "Cal! Cal!" I yell while tapping his face, but there's no response. I start to do compressions on him and he coughs up what looks like a gallon of water but stays unconscious I kiss him and stare for a second letting the anger build up then I hear an awful sound, one that I've never heard before but dreaded hearing.
