Chapter 38

hey guys so this one going to be about 100 words shorter and I'm sorry it's late I just had a lot of meetings that where take up a lot of time and I forgot to post when I got home so here you go

       

Cal POV

When we got to Mare's parents house everyone was there. All of them except for Farley, Eve and Elane have no idea why I decided to plan a big party for Mare, they would always ask me and I just kept saying that Mare had an announcement but I wouldn't say what. She looks like she's having a good time talking to everyone and I think she's forgotten what's going to happen later. As I'm in thought I'm approached by Kilorn who slaps me on the back "well you did a great job" he says "what?" I ask and he laughs "you planned a great party for her" he clarifies and I nod and smile "thank you" I say and stare at Mare "what's the announcement?" He asks and I sigh "it'd be better if it came from Mare" I say and he goes serious "well I take it she's not pregnant then" he says and my eyes go wide "what no! Is that what everyone is thinking!?" I say and he laughs "I guess your done then" he says and I let out a dry laugh "definitely" I say and we stand there watching my children run and play, and then Clara runs up to me "speaking of kids" I say and pick her up "how's the princess?" I ask and she laughs "when is Aunt Mare doing her announcement?" She asks "how do you know that?" I ask "mommy told me to keep the kids distracted" she says and I give a small laugh "well why don't you wait a second and I'll go ask" I say and she nods and teleports out of my arms "Jesus!" I say and Kilorn laughs. As I'm walking over Gisa approaches me "hey whats up? I ask "I was wondering if you could talk to Arin" she asks and I completely forgot that she had brought a guy over "um sure, but why?" I ask and she sighs "well my brothers and Mare keep interrogating him my mother keeps asking personal questions and I think he's had enough of my father" she says and I laugh "well that sound familiar" I say and she smiles "and that's why I want you to talk to him, just let him know not everyone I know is insane" she says "not sure I can help with the insane part but I'll talk to him" I say and she lets out a breath "thanks I'll try and get him out of the conversation with my father" she says and walks away. I walk over to Mare who's talking to Bree's wife Tiffany "hey" I say inserting myself into the conversation "hey" Mare says and gives me a quick kiss "so that announcement that you guys are giving..." Tiff asks "ya" I say and I think I know what she's gonna ask "does it have to do with you being pregnant?" She asks and Mare chokes on her drink "no no no" she says and starts to cough "yes we are done with that" I say and she smiles "but now that the topic is here, when did you want to announce it?" I ask her and she takes a few seconds to think about it "I guess I could get it over with now" she says coldly "alright, just wait a few minutes I need to talk to Arin for Gisa. I'll let you know when I'm done so I can watch the kids I'll in the backyard while you guys talk inside" I say and head to talk to Arin. When I get to him he's standing alone getting a drink "so Arin was it?" I say and hold to my hand to shake it, he looks at me and smiles "yes and you're Cal right" he says shaking my hand "yes, so how's meeting the family going?" I ask and he takes a breath in "good I guess" he says but I laugh "it's ok I know they seem crazy now but just know they went through a lot with the war and all" I say and he lets out a breath "ya, Gisa never talks about it on her own. I usually have to ask" he says and I nod "so your Mare's husband?" He asks and I laugh "not really" I say and he looks confused "we never got married but we have 4 kids" I says "oh..." he says "Mare got pregnant while we where dating and she's not really the big commitment kind of girl so we just never got married" I say "well how'd you two meet?" he asks and I laugh again "wow Gisa really hasn't told you much" I say and he gives a dry laugh "I'm sure you've heard of me, the traitor Prince Tiberias Calore" I say and he chokes on is drink "ya that sound about right" I say to myself and give him a napkin "sorry it's just you look nothing like you did back then. Wow we where taught about you in school, Wait that makes so much more sense now" he says and I give a sideways look "well see in the news there was a whole thing saying that Mare Barrow was going to Marry you and become the first Red Queen of Norta, but I guess she refused" he says and I put my head down "she would never have married me but I did ask her and she declined because I chose the crown over her" I say remembering the pain of it all "sorry I didn't mean to pry" he says and I stand straight "no its fine, just don't bring this up with Mare" I say and he nods. He's nice but still really young and knows little about what everyone here has been through or maybe I'm just getting old. I signal to Mare that she can make her announcement "Alright kids lets go outside!" I yell and they all go running out

Mare POV

Everyone is now sitting in the dining room with me on the end "so what's the announcement?" Trammy asks and I take a deep breath and start with the facts "this information is very classified but it's important that I tell you this if something goes wrong." I start and the vibe in the room changes dramatically "2 weeks ago Maven was seen in the Lakeland's. A week later in the same place an attack by the silver elite occurred" once I say that sentence the room gets so quiet that I can hear my own heart racing "starting November 25th me, Evangeline, and a few of my soldiers are going to go on a mission to try and find the silver elite and Maven and try to get rid of them all. We aren't sure how long this will take so I could be gone for months" I say and my mother starts to cry, Bree looks although he knew what I was going to say which doesn't surprise me since he's in the military too, my sister has silent tears coming down her face and Arin holds her hand to comfort her. Trammy looks devastated and his wife rubs his back to comfort him "why do you have to go" my father asks and I don't want to give them the answer so I stand in silence "Mare" he says more assertively "she's going to be bait" Evangeline says and they all look at her "I'm going on the mission too, we talked for weeks about how to lure him out and Mare was our best option." She says for me and I mouth the words thank you to her and she nods "this is outrageous, what if something happens to you" my father says "what's going to happen with you kids Mare" he says bringing up one of the biggest reasons why I don't want to go "what's going to happen if I don't dad, god forbid he comes here and hurts my family. I've thought this through for weeks and there are bigger risks if I don't go than if I do." I say and that pretty much shuts him up. I stand there in silence until Cal slowly walks in and look at me "Look I'm not leaving tomorrow so lets get our spirits back up because if the kids see this they will ask a lot of questions" I say trying to lighten the mood "wait you haven't told your kids yet" Bree says and now everyone is looking at me surprised "well I..." I start but Cal jumps in "you try and tell your kids something like that" he says and everyone is surprised by it "look I didn't even tell Cal, he found out on his own but I'm going to tell them tonight" I say and Cal gives me a hug "why isn't Cal going" my mother asks "If I went it would do the opposite of what they want" he says and we actually debated this but if Cal went Maven would know he wants him dead and he also wants nothing to do with him but he wants something with me we think. Then all of a sudden we hear a scream come from outside and then Clara just appears out of no where "what happened "I ask her "it's Cori" she says and I panic and run outside. When I get there I see a familiar burn mark on the ground, a lightning burn mark. Cori made lightning? She looks upset and scared and I run to her and see that her hands are sparking then I hear Matt crying, Cal runs to him and sees burn marks on his hands "I didn't mean to" she says tears falling down her face "hey no it's ok what happened?" I ask wiping the tears away "we where...playing ...tag ...and I went to reach for Silvia... and then sparks came flying ... out and Matt pushed Silvia out of the way...but I got his hands" she says taking a breath between every few words and her sparks start to get stronger "hey it's fine he'll be fine ok but I need to to calm down ok sweetie, take deep breaths in...and out" we take deep breaths together and her lighting disappears. I let out a sigh of relief and hug her lifting her off the ground "is he ok?" I ask Cal who nods and holds cold cloths that my mother got, I put Cori down and hold her hand. I look over at Bree and Tiff who are checking over Silvia to see if she got hurt but it looks like she's fine, Trammy and Jess are checking on Shade who looks fine as well, Elane checking is Angie while Eve clams her down, and Giza is comforting the twins. How am I supposed to leave now?

Cal POV

After the incident, I quietly took Matt to a clinic nearby to get his hand healed and we went straight back to Mares parent for dinner. After that was over and we helped clean up, everyone left and now we're on our way home. The car ride I silent, Mare and I aren't talking and the kids are all sleeping. When we get home I carry Matt and Cori while Mare carries Tyler and Tori. We put them to bed and head to our room, Mare flops on to the bed and groans "how am I supposed to leave now" she says "what do you mean?" I ask and se sits up "Coriane" is all she says and I think for a second "why don't you ask Tyton to help her while you're gone" he says and I laugh "Tyton with kids ya right" I say and he laughs "ok how about Ella" I say "no she's not good at teaching" she says "ok well that leaves Raf" I say and her eyes go wide "ya no he'd get her hurt" she says "well we're out of electricons" I say and she rubs her face "well how about all three" she says "they all have a good quality, Tyton is great at teaching, Ella's good with kids, and Raff is well he can help" she finishes and that sound good "alright well how about you tell them tomorrow after you tell the kids you're leaving" I say and her mood changes from feeling successful to completely dreadful "right that" she says and I hug her "look just rip the bandaid off and you'll be fine" I say and she sighs "ya I know" she says and I kiss her head "come on let's go to bed"
