Accidents make perfection

Chapter 9

CAL POV

When I walk into the gala my eyes immediately go to Mare she looks stunning, but better, she looks like her. I see she's catching up with Ada so I decide to grab some food, while I'm grabbing a drink I'm approached by the Nortan premier "is that your girlfriend up there" she says I turn to look at her. I haven't seen her in a dress before she's always wearing a suit or armour. She's wearing a silver dress that falls all the way to the ground, she's tall almost my height but not quite, she has brown hair parted to the left that goes down to her shoulder and the right side is cut short "no, well not really, it's complicated." I say looking at Mare having a good time talking with Ada"well she really likes you" she says I quickly turn my head "you've met her before?" I ask she just laughs "I'm a new blood my ability allows me to sense peoples emotions, when ever you two look each other I can sense the love you both feel for each other, so I just assumed you two were together." Woah I think, that's an interesting ability "Are you able to alter emotions." I ask she laughs "I could if I wanted to master it but I don't really need to use it so I don't." She says.

I see Mare look around the room and once she sees me she starts to walk towards me "she's very pretty." The premier says. Once she reaches me she gives me a kiss on the cheek "hey" she says "hey" I say back the premier clears her throat making herself known "oh sorry, Mare this is premier Ginervra, premier this is captain Mare Barrow." I say, the premier holds her hand out and Mare takes it "it's wonderful to finally meet you I've heard so many things about you." Ginervra says " well I wish I could say the same about you." Mare says, the premier laughs "well I'll leave you two, it was nice meeting you Captain" Ginervra says "please call me Mare" Mare says "alright, Mare. Cal, it was nice seeing you again."and with that she leave Mare just looks at me and asks "when did you first meet her" i giver her a drink "about a month after you left when I was helping get things in order. I actually was the one who volunteered her as the first premier of Norta." She almost chokes on her during when I say that "wait she wasn't voted in you chose her!" She yells "well kinda, see the people wanted me to be the first premier but I said no. Then when I was helping re build the city's I met Ginervra, she was a great leader, nice,  brave, and confident so I asked her what she thought about being the first premier. She said that she would consider, once she said yes, I presented her to the council and they agreed that she was the best choice." I explain she gives me a look that I can't place "what?" I say she just laughs "you're too nice you know that." She puts down her glass and grabs my hand, she pulls me out to the dance floor. We dance for a while before I get taped on the shoulder "may I cut in" Evangeline. Mare smiles "of course" she says and I take Evangeline's hand Mare walks towards Julian and Sara to talk.

"So Mare was excited to see you, when she first talked to me about it she seemed scared out of her mind that you had moved on" Evangeline says "well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. I almost threw up a couple times" I say and laugh Eve laughs too "how are you and Elane?" I ask "good her and tolly got their divorce so now if I want to marry her I can." She responds "and do you?" I ask she looks over at her and smiles "yes I do eventually but I think we'll wait before something like that." I nod in response "how about you and Mare I mean I know you two just got back together but you guys act like you never left each other." Now it's my turn to look, "I've thought about a futur with her ya, getting married but I don't know if she wants that. She doesn't seem like the person who can make a commitment that big with out 100% trusting the person. And after everything I've done it might take a while for her to trust me again." I say , eve gives me a sad smile. When the song stops we go and join the rest of them, Julian, Sara, Elane, Mare, And Ada. We talk and drink forever until Mare starts to a little handsy."let's continue in your room" she whispers in my ear, and I'm to drunk to object.
