Accidents make perfection

Chapter 23

Sorry for the late update I had to start work early today so I couldn't get around to doing some final edits to the story. So here you go and sorry again for the late update.

Cal POV

She just stares in astonishment, her eyes start to well up "do you recognize it?" I ask and she nods "it's where we first met, I was able to rent the whole place last minute" I say and she gives me a hug, I hug back but not too tight. "It was nothing, come on let's go" I say and we make our way to the bar. The entire place is empty except for some one to cook since I'm not going to make her cook and my cooking is atrocious. I pull out the chair for her and she sits down, I go over to the bar and start making drinks "I may not be a good cook but I can Make amazing drinks." I say I make the same drink for us both except mine has a bit of alcohol in it. I set them down and we klink our glasses together. She drinks it and her eyes go wide "this is really good" she says and that make me smile "why thank you" I say back. Someone comes out and puts our food on the table. I look at mare trying to see if she's getting sick, she takes a deep breath and smiles "it smells amazing" she says and I smile "great" I reply. The chef made a beautiful duck breast with potatoes and asparagus. We eat all the food and talked and laughed. I love her laugh. The desserts comes out and it's just a small cake with ice cream, when we finish eating we keep talking for a while about what we've been doing since she left, "I love Montfort" she says "it's so nice and.. I guess normal. I don't have to worry about the officers arresting me anymore" she continues and I laugh "probably because you're not pickpocketing anymore." I say and she laughs "do you think you still have your touch" I ask and she rolls her eyes "of course I do" she says and I raise my eye brows "ok" I say in a sarcastic tone and she looks offended "hey, I so to still have my touch" she fires back and I put up my arms in defeat. Then the cook looks at me and I nod, he turns on the music and the song comes on. I stand up and hold my hand out she smiles and takes it, I put my left hand on her waist and she puts her right hand on my shoulder and our other hands join together. We dance in silence until the song is over, when it changes we change stances so that it's more casual "how on earth did you put this together in one day" she asks and I smile "I've been friends with the owner for years, ever since I started coming out here. I called him, we talked for a while and he owed me a favour so I cashed it in" I say and she leans on my chest "I love you" she says softly, I hug her "I love you too" I say. When we're done our dancing I walk over to Say thank you to the Conner the manager. We chat for a bit and Mare comes over to say hi, once we're done we head back to the car. Mare stops at the front of the car and I make my way to the side, I reach in my pockets but I can't find my keys, or my phone, or my wallet "missing something"Mare says holding up all the things I lost. I let out a weak laugh she walks towards me, leans close to my face and just when I think she going in for a kiss she whispers "never underestimate my pickpocketing skills" and walks away and gets in the car. I'm standing there in shock of what just happened, I let out a small laugh and get in the car. Half way through the drive home I look over and I see Mare and she's sleeping, when we get back to the hotel I carry her to her room. I put her to bed and head to my room to take a shower and change, when I start to leave I hear Mare move around so I stand in the door way and wait for her to look at me "where are you going?" She asks "to change" I say back and she grumbles in response. I laugh a little and head to my room, when I get there I get a call from commander James i take my blazer off and answer the phone. I put it on speakerphone "Commander, I wasn't expecting to hear from you" I say "Well I wasn't expecting to call you" he says and I laugh "So, why'd you call" I say "I'm afraid you're going to have to cut your trip short we need you back now, the lakelanders have attacked the Alpha base and have captured general Adams. We need you and your squadron to get him back." He says "Fuck, ok I'll be back by tomorrow evening" I say "no you'll be here now, I sent a transport to come and get you, pack your bags soldier you're off to war" he says and hangs up the phone. I rush and pack my bags and get my armour on, i go into Mares room and wake her up "Mare, hey, Mare" I say and she wakes up "whaaaaat?" She says and I laugh "I have to go, I wanted to say goodbye" I say and she looks at me. Her eyes go wide when she sees what I'm wearing "where are you going?" She asks panic in her voice "it's fine just a rescue mission I'll be back in about a week or two" I say. She gets out of bed and starts packing her bags "what are you doing?" I ask "I'm going with you" she says "no you're not" I say and grab her hands stopping her from packing "you're going back to Montfort tomorrow night." I say and she looks at me like I'm stupid " no Cal I'm going with you"she says "Mare I need you to go back home and keep you and our baby safe" I say and her eyes go wide, no doubt forgetting that if she risks her life she risking the life of our baby's as well. "I'm such an idiot" she says and I hug her "no you're not, ok?" I say knowing she's thinking she's a bad mother for wanting to protect me by risking our baby's life. I get a text from the driver saying that we need to go now "Mare, I need to go" I say and when we separate I see that she's tearing up " stay safe ok, I'll kill you if something happens to you" she says "I will" I say and kiss her. We kiss until I get another text from the driver "see you soon" I say and hug her. I walk out and I feel a longing for her, I fight the urge to run back, I hate leaving her like this. I get in the car but we don't leave right away for some reason, but after about 5 minutes I get my answer.
