Accidents make perfection

Chapter 27

Cal POV

Holly does some stuff to the machine and I can't help but wonder how it works, I get that from my mother apparently, my fascination with engineering. "Mare can you lie down for me." Holly says and Mare does as she's asked "now lift up your shirt and bring your waist band down as low as you can." She says and Mare follows again "now this is going to be cold." She warns and puts this gel on her abdomen, Mare shifts "woah ok ya that is cold." She says and Holly laughs she rubs this thing that's connected to the machine on Mare, spreading around the gel. Mare cringes at the temperature and she grabs my hand, all of a sudden we start to hear this sound "now that's the sound of the placenta pumping blood to your baby," Holly says she moves the thing around trying to find the baby, I stare intensely at the screen "stop looking so hard you'll get a headache" Mare whispers in my ear, I laughs but don't bring my eyes away. Then I see it, our baby "and there it is" Holly confirms what i see, you can see it's little head and it's little nose and little lips, and little legs. I'm in aw and so is Mare "you know even though I've seen the baby before I'm still amazed." Mare says. "Now you won't be able to feel the baby move until about 16 weeks but because this is your first pregnancy you might not feel it until 25 weeks." Holly says. We finish the rest of the appointment and we talk about more of the technical things with pregnancy, Mare asks questions about her body changing and Holly reassures her " you're  doing fine, the baby is the perfect size, it's just your uterus has swollen more due to you being a small person" she says and Mare nods. We leave with a picture of the baby and I have a huge smile on my face we get in the car and I look at Mare, I look for a little longer then I intended "cal why are you staring at me"Mare says "I love you" I say and she blushes "I love you too." She says and we kiss for a long while. We drive back home, it's a short drive so we get home before lunch. When we walk inside Mare almost topples over "woah" she says and I grab both her shoulders to steady her "you ok?" I ask "ya just got a little dizzy" she says, it's been happening a lot lately but Holly says it's normal. We head to the kitchen and make some lunch, Mare does most of the cooking, but I do the preparation. The rest of our day is nice and relaxed, it's how Mare likes to spend her days off and I don't blame her. We go for a walk through the forest behind our house after dinner, when we get back Mare is wiped, we head to bed and cuddle until we fall asleep. When I wake up I'm in the bed alone I don't hear or see Mare anywhere. I get out of bed and head downstairs, and she's not there either "where the hell is she?" I say to an empty house I decide to text her and ask her where she is. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and i want to spend as much time as I can with her before I'm gone for 2 weeks. After about 30 minutes I get a text back from her saying "sorry for the late reply but I went out with Gisa for breakfast I'll be home in about 30 minutes." I sigh and decide to go and take a shower and get ready for the day. When I'm done Mare finally comes home "hey sorry I forgot to tell you" she says to me sitting next to me on the couch and kisses my cheek "no problem, I just wanted to spend as much time with you as possible since I'm leaving tomorrow." I say, her facial expression changes dramatically from happy to se me to, why are you doing this to me. She looks down at her hands "that was one of the reasons I didn't cancel" she says and I'm confused "wait why?" I say "because seeing you just reminds me you're just gonna leave again." She says. "So that's why you've been distant lately?" I asks and she nods. I pull her into a hug "well don't think of it that way, try to think about all the things we'll do when I'm back and enjoy the time we have now." I say and she smiles "you're right" she says "so what do you want to do today?" I ask, she takes a deep breath "hmmmmm I don't know?" She says. We sit there for a few seconds thinking and then mare shivers, I rise the temperature a bit and she melts into my lap "I ment to ask you, can you use your ability?" I ask and she sighs "no I'm not, because it's electricity if the baby isn't an electricon then, well I could fry it." I say and that makes me shiver "and how do you feel about that." I say "I don't know, I mean I love using my ability but if it's going to hurt the baby I'm happy to give it up for 9 months." She says "I've got an idea how about we just stay in and cuddle for the rest of the night." I say, Mare smiles "you sure, we can go do something if you want." She says and I shake my head "no, if I'm going to be leaving soon I want to spend it with you enjoying yourself, instead of tolerating what we're doing to make me happy." I say and she laughs "well thank you" she says, nuzzling herself deep into my chest "plus if you're happy that's means he's happy too." I say "it's a She" she corrects me "let's agree to disagree" I say.

Mare POV

We spend the rest of the night chilling, for dinner i try to teach Cal a few things but he ends up burning the chicken for our stir fry so we had to use leftover roasted chicken. We watch a movie and head to bed. "So, why do you want to have a boy" I ask "its not that I want a boy, I just think its going to be a boy" he says, I sit up "so why do you think were going to have a boy?" I ask and he sighs "well, my entire family have had boys as their first child, and your parents had 3 boys before they had you." He says "well that was a very educated and logical answer" I say and he chuckles "so why do you think were having a girl?" He asks "I don't know I just think we are" I says and he laughs "what? Just because I don't have logic around mine doesn't mean I'm wrong" I say "you're right, you're right" he says putting his hands up in defeat. I snuggle back into his chest, I get a contraction and shift onto my back Cal puts his hand on my abdomen warming it a little but not too much, it helps ease it a little but its still hurts. He kisses my cheek,  tucks my hair behind my ear and whispers "you're so beautiful" I let out a breath "shut up" I say and he looks offended "Mare I'm not lying, how many times do I have to tell you that before you believe me" he says and I sigh "you're sexy, funny, cute, beautiful and most importantly you're my girlfriend and I love you no matter what." He says and I put a smile on my face so he'll stop "thank you" I say and kiss him on the lips, when we separate he sighs "Mare I know when you're lying" he says "Cal can we just drop this" I say and he gets up "no we cant because I don't want to leave tomorrow knowing that you hate yourself. So get up." He says "Cal I...." I start but he interrupts me "no, get up" he says again and I reluctantly get up. He grabs my hands and brings me over to the full body mirror, I'm not wearing anything other then some shorts and a tank top. Cal grabs the bottom of the shirt and takes it off so I'm just in a bra and shorts . He grabs my shoulders and stands behind me "now, what do you see" he asks and I sigh "I see a misshapen disproportionate mess" I say and its true "no, tell me what you see not what you think" he says "Cal I don't see..." start but he shushes "tell me what you see, start small" he repeats and I take a deep breath "I see a girl" I say and he nods "and whats distinct about her?" He asks "she's... curvy?" I say and he smiles "yes, and what makes those curves?" He asks "her hips" I say and he nods "and whats being carried on those hips?" He asks and I smile "our baby" I say and for once I smile looking at my body and admiring it. Cal has a full smile on his face and kisses my neck "thats my girl" he says and I smile even bigger, I turn around and put my arms around his neck and he puts his hands on my waist "thank you" I say and he smiles "no, thank you for finally realizing what you knew all along" he says and kisses me.

After that we go to bed, when I wake up Cal's sitting on the side of the bed rubbing his hand on my thigh "what's happening?" I ask and he laughs "I'm leaving" he says and I jump up and hug him "I'm sorry" I say and he hugs back "no its fine you're tired I wanted to let you sleep before you had to go train today." He says "I don't care about that, I want to be with you for as long as possible." I say. Cal lets go but I hold on tight "Mare I'm going to be late" he says "I don't care" I say and he laughs. He prys my hand off him "I love you and ill see you in two weeks" he says "I love you too" I say and kiss him passionately on the lips. When we separate he tucks a lock of hair behind my ear and smiles. He gets up and starts to leave "bye" I say, he turns "bye" he says back. He leaves and now I'm all alone again, but I have a warm feeling inside knowing he will always be with me and that our baby will connect us together.
