Chapter 35

Hey guys I'm so sorry for the late upload but I totally forgot I had a huge Christmas dinner today and I stayed up until 5am working on a project and finally finishing it!!!!! Anyways sorry that this one is short but I'm starting to run out of ideas for the story. I'm going to keep trying to bring quality content for you guys so just hold on it'll get better I promise. Oh and also I won't be proof reading this one so there will be a lot of mistakes. Sorry.

(Cori is now 1 month old)

"Can you pass the garlic" I say to Cal, I'm making dinner for my whole family today and it's kinda stressing me out "here" he says handing me the dish "thanks" I say and add it to chicken and start to pour in some balsamic "so what are you making?" He asks while playing with Cori "Balsamic chicken, roasted potatoes, and coleslaw" I say "ok where's the time" I say going through all of my spices in the drawer, I start to get angry because I can't find it "where the hell is it" i say quietly, then I find it "remind me again on why you insisted on having them come here" Cal says "because, we have a nice house and we haven't had them over" I say and he comes up behind me losing my neck "ya but they could have brought food so you wouldn't  have stressed yourself out with cooking for 12 people" he says and I sigh "well my mom is bringing dessert" I say and he laughs "fine, do you need any help?" He asks "ya actually, could you make the dressing for the coleslaw." I says dm he just stares at me "how..." he says and I laugh "here I'll send you the recipe" I say and send it to his phone. I finish making the chicken and Cal finishes the coleslaw, I check the potatoes and they're almost done. The someone Riggs the door bell "I'll get it" Cal says grabbing Cori and heading to the door, I hear everyone gushing over our daughter which makes me happy. My mother walks into the kitchen with a beautiful cake "oh mom that looks beautiful" I say and she smiles "thank you" she says and comes to see what I made "oh wow Mare this all looks delicious" she says and I smile "how did you do all this with a baby?" She asks "Cal played with her the whole time" I say and take the potatoes out of the oven "well it's ready" I say and my mother kisses my forehead "alright everyone come help bring the food out" my mother yells to everyone. My father heads to the table and pours water for everyone, my brothers put the food into bowls and on platters, and Kilorn take the food to the table. Cal grabs the wine from the fridge and starts to pour it for everyone, Farley gets Clara ready to eat and then everyone sits down and starts to serve themselves. It's really nice to have everyone here, safe and happy. I look over at Cal and he looks like he's going to shed a tear "you ok?" I ask quietly so no one notices "ya it's just... I've never had a family dinner like this before, or a family that I love this much." He says and a tear falls but he keeps his composure "hey look at me, you deserve it, you worked so hard to get here. I love you" I say and kiss him "thanks" he says. We finish dinner and then have my mothers cake that was delicious. We talk for a while longer migrating to the living room and I have to go put Coriane to sleep. I get to our room and rock her back and forth singing a song I love. She falls asleep and I set her down in her crib. When I turn around I see Farley at the door "Looks like you've gotten it down" she says and I laugh "not even I think it's just because she's a angel" I say and she smiles "well certainly better the Clara was" she says and we head back out. Clara is asleep in Cals arms my mother is laying on my father on the couch and my sister on the other side, my brothers are sitting on the floor and Cal is sitting on a chair next to the fireplace and Kilorn in the other side, Farley and I go and sit. I sit in front of Cal on the ground and he starts to message my shoulders and Farley sits in front of Kilorn. We talk for a while about my brothers girlfriends, it finally seems they want to settle down and start a family of their own "so what her name?" I ask Trammy and he blushes "Ashely" he says and I smile "what does she do?" My mother asks "she's a biologist working on how green-wardens speed the process of plant growth." He says and i stare at him "you understand what she does?" Bree asks "well ya, I help her with her research sometimes" he says and we are all amazed "i may not do well in math or spelling but I know how plants and people work" he says and I nod "well at least you're not waisting your time" Cal says and we all laugh "and what about you Bree what's your girls name" Farley asks "Jessica, she's an officer in the military" he says and Farley and I both look at each other "wait Captain Jessica Ashley" I say and he nods "ya why do you know her?" He asks and Farley laughs "Mare trained her for a few months and then she started to excel her" she says and I slump down and cross my arms "so you not like her?" Cal asks "no i like her, it's just because I got pregnant and she was able to rain and i wasn't" I say and Cal kisses my head "I hope there's not going to be any trouble between you two" Bree says "no there won't be because as soon as I can I'm going to be training as much as I can" I say and he seems to relax. We finish talking about things and then everyone leaves, Clara didn't want to leave. She instead wanted to stay and sleep in Cals arms but I convinced her that sleeping with his sucks, even though it doesn't. It's actually the only way I like to sleep now, in his arms. We say goodbye and I let out a long breath "I'm so worn out" I say and lean into Cal "me too, let's just go straight to bed" he says and I nod. We get to bed and I look at the time, I need to feed Cori in a few minutes" I quietly groan out in our bedroom flopping onto my back on our bed. Cal sits next to my head and brushes his fingers through my hair "you're amazing" he says and I grab his arm and kiss his hand and put it on my cheek "you too" I say and the as if I'm cue Coriane starts to cry "duty calls" I say and grab Coriane.

Cal POV

I wake up pretty early, at around 7am to Coriane getting a little fussy. I go and grab her and lie back down on the bed, she likes to curl up on our chests but mostly Mares, my guess is there's more cushioning. We sit there just enjoying the time spent listening to each other's breathing, until Mare starts to wake up, I put Cori near Mare's head and when she turns around her eyes go wide "what the hell" she whispers and I laugh and place her back on my chest "calm down, she woke up a while ago" I say and she smiles and leans up onto my shoulder "she's so cute" she says and I smile "just like her mother" I say and she kisses my cheek "I want more kids" I say and she looks at me it's wide eyes "slow down there buddy I'm not even healed from this little one yet" she says and I laugh "I know but I want to have more kids later on" I say and and she smiles and puts her head on my shoulders "how many do you want?" She asks and I think for a second "maybe 3-4" I say and she nods "here, let's wait a year before we try to have another" she says and I smile "so are we going to get married?" I ask but I don't care about that anymore all I want is her and Cori I don't need more "do you think we should?" She asks and I shrug "I don't need to marry you so that you know how much I love you do I?" I ask and she laughs "no I think where we are right now is perfect" she says and kisses me, but just as our lips touch Coriane starts to cry "breakfast" I whisper on her lips and she sighs "ok princess" she says and I'm glad that nick name caught on. I go downstairs and make some breakfast for us, once I'm done Mare comes down with Cori and we sit on the couch and eat "how about we go for walk today" I through out there and she smiles "ok" she says. Normally this weather would be too cold for a baby, but I make a nice warm bubble around us and we go walking though the forest with Cori in a stroller "I love winter" Mare says and I laugh "well I'm not to fond of it" I say and it's true, I'm surrounded with the very thing that could kill me and almost did kill me "well take away the fact that it's water and just look how simple and beautiful it is" she says and I look around "I can see  the beauty but that's what makes it deceiving" I say and she laughs grabbing onto my arm with both hands "it's almost Christmas" she says and I smile "I never really celebrated Christmas as a kid" I say and she smiles "well I didn't either, we couldn't really afford it. I would usually save up what I pickpocketed and buy a bunch of stuff to make a big dinner. My mother would always hate it but we got to eat well for one day a year." She says and I hug her tighter "why did you never celebrate it?" She asks "well my father couldn't deal with the thought of trying to be a normal after my mother died. So he just didn't try, Elara didn't like the idea of giving presents to me or Maven so she never enforced it" I say and she squeezes me "well maybe we can turn this holiday from a bad memory for both of us to a happy memory for our family." She says "that sounds like a perfect idea" we head back to the house and put Cori straight to bed. I head back downstairs and Mare is lying on the ground and lets out a long groan "uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg" She says and I laugh "what's wrong with you?" I ask and she put her head up "I just want to do nothing for a day" she says and I lay next to her and we both just stare at the ceiling for about 30 minutes, it's nice, just being with her and not talking and enjoying her company "I should probably start dinner" she says and starts to get up, but I pick her back down and pull out my phone "what do you want to eat?" I ask and she laughs "um... Chinese." She says and I order the food we sit on the couch watching a movie with a now awake Coriane and eat the Chinese food I ordered. It's such a beautiful moment in my life right now and I never want to forget it.
