After the First World War, everyone deemed it unnecessary to have a second one. But Hitler had a different ideal, he wanted the world to be perfect. His perfect. So, he began taking all of those who he saw as imperfect - Jews, handicaps, gypsies, anyone who tried to go against his plans, you name it - and took them to concentration camps for no reason.

Finally, Britain and France decided they could no longer stand idle as Hitler did this and declared war against the Axis. On September 1, 1939, World War 2 began.

Australia joined the Allies in the war, meaning that our men had to go to war themselves. And I, although a woman, signed up. It was unusual for females back then, but there was a small group of us who were skilled in the combat needed for war. At first, they did not agree to our registration, but seeing how little men they had, they allowed us.

This is the story of how I survived the war, the story of how I met him.

-

I ran through the deep snow, clutching my gun by my side whilst trying to see through the forming blizzard. We had just invaded the enemy's barracks and now were in the middle of a battle.

I flinched at the sounds of gunshots, it had been a year since I joined and I still hadn't gotten used to it unlike the other soldiers. Suddenly, a Nazi appeared in front of me, knocking me to the ground. I watched with wide eyes as he aimed the gun at me in fear. I closed my eyes and heard the deep sound of the bullet being shot.

I opened my eyes to see the soldier on the ground, red splattered everywhere on the fresh, white snow.
"L/N!" Bakugo growled. "Stop being such a wimp!" He yelled before running off.

I nodded and got off the ground and ran back to our barracks, jumping down.
"L/N!" I looked to my left to see the Colonel.
"Colonel Toshinori!" I saluted.
"How did it go?" He asked.
"Our enemy raid has been successful, sir!"
"Good, and what's our status?"
"Seven confirmed dead sir, six injured, we are expecting more details to come after the battle!"
"Okay, keep up your good work L/N, I think it's time I get out there." He grinned and grabbed my gun, jumping out of the barracks and charging at the enemy.

I sighed at his eagerness to fight. Colonel Toshinori was a hero in our area and once he was promoted to a Colonel, he got sick of doing paperwork all day and decided to do the practical stuff instead.

"L/N!" A fellow soldier, Kaminari, came over to me.
"Yes?"
"Apparently an enemy has been sighted along the outskirts of the forest surrounding us. Can you go scout for a second?"
I made a puzzled face. "This far into our territory?" I asked.
"That's what I was told."
"Well then, I'll go check it out." I said, walking away.
"But ma'am, aren't you going to take your gun?" He asked.
"I've no need, it was probably just a wolf they saw."

I continued walking away towards the forest.

I had scouted most of the forest and seen no sign of any human life.
"Damn..." I mumbled. "Don't tell me this is some prank." The snow was getting thicker and it was getting harder to see where I was going.
"Maybe I should turn back..." I stopped and looked at the ground. Red splatters of blood made a trail and it was quickly getting covered by the snow. I followed it, trying to beat the snowfall.

The blood ended and I looked up ahead of me to see an injured soldier. I rushed up to him.
"Are you okay?!" I asked, trying to see if he was conscious or not, but I received no answer. I leaned in to his chest and felt him breathing and sighed thankfully. I looked at the boy, he seemed to be my age and he was covered in snow so I couldn't see his uniform.

I brushed away some snow on his hat to reveal the Nazi symbol. I cursed under my breath and thought, contemplating on whether or not I should save our enemy or whether or not I should leave him for dead.
