Chapter Fifty-Nine:

(Kismet)

Everything stops. Seokjin is lost in his own world, painfully watching as Ye-Jun falls to the ground. Before Namjoon could fully process what happened, another bullet can be heard, passing through his view and landing on Minseu. As Namjoon sprints for Ye-Jun, Rufus pulls the trigger, two bullets hit Seokjin's mother. One in her belly and another closer to her heart.

"Mom," he yells, but he hears nothing. He drags himself to her and begins to stop the flow of blood in both her wounds.

She whimpers and her hands cup his face, despite the overflowing of blood in her body. Seokjin closes his eyes, and touches her hand, completely aware that his skin had just been smeared with her blood, the tick substance daunting him.

"Mommy, please don't die," he whispers, every single fiber of his body loosing control. He was loosing control. But he remained calmed.

His mother was here in presence, probably dying, and he couldn't dare look at his surroundings. He knew there was chaos. Namjoon was in the same position as he was. And that chaos, or the pain that his lover and the man that his lover loved too were going through, couldn't distract him from the pain he was in.

Pain from the situation. Pain from heartache. And pain from anger. He was angry. So angry he wanted to leave his mother and kill Minseu with his bare hands if she hadn't died already.

Thoughts were thoughts and acting on them wouldn't help him save his mother. Here, being with her, could be the last he was with her and he's not going to ruin that by fuming with the enemy. She had already took so much from him.

"My baby, be strong for your kids. You have always been the good mother. I admire you," his mother says, struggling to form words, her body trembling and gasping for help.

"I need you. Jungkook and Taehyung need you. Even with all your mistakes we still love you. Life can't go on without you," Seokjin stammers, holding her body for dear life.

She was dying in front of him and there was no sign of the police. She was dying.

Life was dying. Dying was part of change. Of the human cycle. But he didn't want change. Yes, his mother had been horrible, painstakingly ripping them apart from her, but she was still their mother. She was still his mother.

And as truthful as it is to hear it, the moment he was chained and his life was a negotiation, hope had died. Hope that Minseu would change and leave things alone. Hope that everything would go back to normal. That his life wouldn't witness yet another reason why he wasn't worthy of happiness.

Perhaps something inside him died too. The joy of life. The trust of people. Fate. All the excitement was gone. Life can change in an instant. You wake up and are happily planning to tell your boyfriend that he's gonna be a dad, and the next thing you know you're handcuffed, debating whether you're gonna live or die. Or if you ever gonna have the opportunity to bring another life into the world.

"Seokjin, promise me one thing." His mother coughs, and her eyes start to drop, her breathing unevenly.

"No, no. No! This conversation is for the people that are going to die and you're not gonna die." Seokjin shakes his head, refusing to have this conversation.

She wasn't going to die. She's ridiculous for even talking about promises. Promises are meant to be kept. And only the living do promises.

"Listen to me. You need to promise that you're going to love your kids with all your heart. You need to promise me that Taehyung and Jungkook won't resent me. Tell them I love them. I have always loved all of you."
