Chapter Sixty-Seven
(Kismet)
"She's dying."
Those two words crashed Seokjin's spirits as if several bricks had been thrown on his shoulders to warn him of the pain that was lying ahead. And he had been neglecting the pain that came with the realization that she wasn't coming back to normal life, as she had always been.
Seokjin didn't want this realization. He didn't want the pain. With his mother, heavily medicated, and most of the time asleep, it had been easy for Seokjin to pretend she wasn't in danger. His mother was just sleeping, nothing more.
But the truth was: she wasn't sleeping. Not technically. His mother requested every single day for medication that would help her not feel the pain of her wounds. She was out of it, just as he was in this moment.
Why couldn't she be asleep like Sleeping Beauty and why wasn't he waking her up?
"My name is Earl Rogers, " the man had said right before Seokjin and Namjoon had entered the room, going straight to Seokjin's usual spot next to his mother's bed.
Mr. Prince was not saving her, instead, he was bidding them farewell for his mother, his voice slow and heavy. He had said nothing more, urging Seokjin to call his brothers. The man told him that he would say nothing more until the three brothers were present.
So Seokjin called his brothers, relieved to have them both together. As he had been, his brothers were confused and scared. None of them had thought of the after. They knew she was in intensive care which meant there was a possibility that she could die, but they never actually thought that possibility might come true. That possibility had been just a possibility. And the realization that it was no longer a possibility, but reality, froze Seokjin in his seat, his breaths shorting as he sat there waiting for his brothers to arrive.
The door close shut, startling Seokjin from his wheelchair. A tear slipped from his eye and as he tried to wipe it off to seem calm, another free itself, causing Seokjin to sob, letting his shoulders shake.
"Seokjin..." Namjoon began, his body moving to squat in front of Seokjin. Seokjin only sobbed harder, his hands desperately pulling Namjoon's neck closer to him, so that his body was awkwardly soothing Seokjin.
"My mother can't die, Namjoon. She never got to meet her grandchild be born. She's not going to see our daughter be born. She took a bullet for me because she repented for what she did to me all those years ago. And now I won't get to see her love me with real honesty."
"Your mother never stopped loving you. She did horrible things, but she loved you. And she still loves you, " Namjoon says, pulling himself from the floor and cupping Seokjin's body with his hands and bringing him to the soft couch, placing him on top of his legs.
Seokjin shakes his head, refusing to believe what Namjoon said. His mother never really loved him. Not like she loved Jungkook and Taehyung. His mother had been loving, present whenever she felt like it, but she never saw him with warm eyes as she did with his brothers. Seokjin had been the reason why she never achieved her dreams, and the passing years didn't seem to stop reminding her of that.
Furthermore, Seokjin had won the hearts of his brothers. Taehyung the most. Jungkook had always been distant to either him, their father or their mother so it seemed like he was still the same. However, Taehyung, after their father's death began attaching to him, and soon began to not wanting him to leave his sight.
"It's not my fault my brothers came to me more. It's not my fault my mother was forced to have me. No matter how she felt about me I still love her. There are so many feelings I have toward her, and even though I don't know how to sort them out, I still want her alive. I know she one day will love me as much as she does with my brothers, " Seokjin confesses, his sobs finally subsiding.
