I walked to the shop I was intending to go to and walked in. It was a small food shop. I looked in my bag; I only had about $50 for the weekend. I love my food, and I’m a self-taught expert of cheap stuff.

I started doing calculations in my head with my rent money, food money, bill money and in general everything else I may buy. I was barely making it. But I was good for this month.

I made a small face as I looked around the store. I’m feeling like some chicken. So I grabbed some fresh chicken and started going through some spices and some rice and even sauce ideas. Several ideas came to mind as I continued looking about the market. It was going well, and I managed to get $10 left over.

So I bought some ingredients for brownies and an apple.

Yummy!

I paid for everything and, I still had three dollars. I walked out of the market and stopped when I saw a homeless man sitting there with a can for money or something. I dropped my three dollars into his can and tossed him the apple. He caught it, he looked so unclean and cold, like he hadn’t had a shower for a while or a shave.

I didn’t mind, but he didn’t look healthy.

He was sitting on a cardboard piece with a sleeping bag next to him.

I gave him a wink when he looked at me with the most unbelievably shocked eyes. “Take care of yourself sir,” I said as I walked away. I heard the sound of an apple bite seconds later.

I managed to make it home without falling over again. The building was in view, all the lights were on since it was growing dark, and I saw some of the vacant apartment lights were on. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t somewhat happy to see that.

People must’ve moved in.

Finally!

I went to the building and froze when I got to the door. I hit my rewind button and turned to the side of the building. My bike was there, the wheel was still mucked up, but it was leaning against the building’s storage garage.

I blinked several times as I walked into the building, my bike dwelling in my mind, and I went into the elevator to the Main Room. The key hole that let me out of the elevator on that floor was giving me some grief when it tried to eat it.

I pulled against it and it came loose.

Andy was just outside the elevator and watched me slam into the back wall of the elevator and my bag contents go everywhere.

He covered a smirk.

I rolled my eyes as I grabbed what I could and practically crawled out of the elevator and put everything in the bags again.

Andy kneeled before me as he picked up one of my stray sauce bottles. “Making something, Kate?” he asked as we both stood up. I nodded as I opened the bag for him to drop the sauce.
