Several days passed and that sense of depression still filled me about the Captain and I had a mini collection of cigarette packets from Liam. He was noticing, and it was getting harder for me to go in and out of his apartment in a few seconds.
Now he was hiding them near the front door... he caught me once!
The news of the Captain's illness spread through the building in a matter of days, and not one of the talkers was me.
I was sitting in my room, playing depressing notes on my flute. Someone suddenly knocked on my door, and Cassidy's voice sang through the walls like they weren't even there. "Katie!" she called a second time, her chorus was suddenly added by Alex calling my name.
I walked to the door and opened it; Cassidy seemed cheerful and without an explanation pulled me forwards. Alex and Cassidy seemed excited about something as I was dragged up to Cassidy's apartment. "I think you're gonna really like this," Alex informed covering my eyes with his hands as Cassidy opened her door. I walked in, guided by touch, and was placed on a rolling office chair.
"No peeking, Katie," Cassidy giggled as she disappeared from my touching circle. Alex's hands remained on my eyes.
"You guys are crazy, you know that?" I stated folding my arms.
Alex's lips were near my ear, "I asked Cassidy to help with a costume," he whispered as he allowed me to see. I blinked several times as Cassidy rolled a dummy forwards, there was a dancing dress before me. A white dress with silver snowflakes patterned on the skirt and across the chest. There were even creamy stockings to go with the outfit.
Cassidy smiled as I marvelled at the ballet dress. "I also made this one," she pulled another along; this one reminded me more of a forest animal. White and dark grey colours that looked a lot like a snow squirrel, there was even a tail.
"Please try them on," Cassidy urged kneeling before me and resting her hands on my knees.
I was too surprised to object as I tried to fluffy squirrel one. When I came out, Cassidy and Alex were sitting on the lounge looking at me. Cassidy stood up, admiring both me and her work, "give us a twirl, Kate." I obeyed and did a small twirl, the skirt had a thin layer of white fur on it that flied at the slightest movement and it was like I had a cape of fur behind me.
She seemed as excited as me as she gleefully exclaimed and took hold of my hands, "oh sweetie, you look so cute," she informed patting aside some of my hair.
I was blushing again, "why did you make this for me?" I asked.
Cassidy folded her arms, "the same reason you didn't tell me you got a call back for a dancing audition," she informed.
I went wide eyed as I looked at Alex, that audition was over a week ago, I thought they had forgotten. "I what?" I was so shocked.
Alex smirked as he rose to his feet and did a stupid little bow, "I got the call yesterday, thought I might surprise you so I asked Cassidy to make some outfits," he explained.
I hugged him tightly while I laughed and exclaimed in glee. Oh My God was being chanted into his shoulder over and over again as he hugged me back awkwardly. I pulled away, "but you haven't got it yet," he informed, despite this I was still happy.
Cassidy urged me to try on the snowflake dress. She had looked at some of past costumes and, 'enhanced the awesome cuteness of it.'
I liked the snowflake dress better. I felt so elegant, pretty even. I giggled as I did several twirls without instruction.
"How does it fit, honey?" Cassidy asked as she placed her hands on the fabric around my hips, she was pulling at several of the glittery bits.
It fit perfectly, and I was sure to express it.
