The party was now in a matter of hours and I still didn't have a present for Alex.
I was softly patting Kitty, still in her silly little outfit, on my balcony. I attempted counting the snowflakes as they fell, at first they fell very softly and were actually countable, but after a while the snow became heavier and I lost count after 89.
Kitty was snoozing on my lap, so I carefully scooped her in my arms and walked into my warm apartment, where she snuggled into my bed.
I rolled my eyes as I closed the door so she wouldn't try and go out in the cold and went across the Isaac's balcony, went to the fire escape and started climbing up. The railing was becoming very slippery and cold. Snow piled in the corners of the fire escape and balanced on the surface of the railing, losing balance when my hand ran across it.
I balanced on the railing at one point and my shoes nearly slipped as I hopped onto Booker's balcony. The smell of sweet cookies filled the air, glancing into their apartment, I watched as Booker and Adam grabbed a cookie off a tray. They were dressed like jolly pastry chefs and had the dough and flour staining their aprons or stuck to their cheeks. I smirked especially at Adam, who had frosting on his nose.
I watched as Booker picked one up as well and overplayed how hot it was. Throwing it from one hand to the other, his facial expression was priceless, causing Adam to ring out laughing and me to softly giggle from the side lines as I left them to their cookies.
I started climbing around the balcony divider and managed to stand on the railing without falling, but just as I was about to jump off, a large gust of chilly wind came from nowhere and that sickly feeling of fear filled me as I wobbled and my feet slipped from the railing. I squealed in surprise as I arms slammed into the railing to keep me and my flailing feet from falling the building length down.
Cassidy was soon before me, "Katie!" she exclaimed as she grabbed my wrists and laughed, "what are you doing?" I managed to get my feet to grip onto something and made Cassidy help me over the railing and onto the safety of the balcony. She looked down and back at me, "you uneventful life flash before your eyes, sweetie?"
I shook my head, but my heart still hammered and I didn't trust myself to speak without a stutter.
She smiled at me and we both walked into her apartment, "so what was worth risking your life over?" she asked sitting on her lounge, she seemed to be in the middle of a movie or something with two cups of fizzy drink.
"Just came to visit," I informed sitting next to her, "I still don't know what to get Alex for the Secret Santa."
She smirked, "the party is in a few hours, I think you're cutting it a bit late," she informed twiddling her thumbs.
I rolled my eyes, "never would've guessed. He told me that his parents never come for Christmas, so I tried calling them."
"And...?"
"I called each of them several times over the past few days and I always got voicemail," I explained, and I had. Every time I had left a message telling them of my predicament and how I wondered if they could come for Andy's party to be with Alex. Neither have gotten back to me... I thought maybe it was something to do with time difference, so I called at two in the morning, but still nothing.
"He did say his family was never around," Cassidy informed.
"I know, but still..." I was now fiddling with my thumbs.
Cassidy shrugged, "well... if you are running out of time for a present, I have some information that might be helpful," she informed.
I jumped at the opportunity to know.
