Epilogue 1. Twist of Fate

(Bane's POV)

Darkness....and silence, that was the first thing I noticed when I arose from the abyss.

At first I was confused....disoriented, disturbed by the unsettling silence and the seemingly never ending darkness. The shadows stretched on for as far as the eye could see, not a single flicker or spark of light to be seen.

Then slowly It came back to me, I remembered what had happened. The VITAL festival, the attack, the battle....the sacrifice.....and the end.

"My death.....that's right, me and Cinder killed each other....I died when the nuke hit Beacon and blew up Vale.....then, where am I now?"

Slowly I rose to my feet, walking around as I tried to ponder a viable answer to my question. My footsteps being the only sound in the unnervingly quiet world that I had been put in.

"If this is the afterlife I am severely underwhelmed by it all. Guess we don't all go to a better place in the end."

"There is a better place, for those deserving that is. Unfortunately it is not your time just yet Bane."

The moment I heard the voice a golden light began emitting from bellow me, slowly I watched as a person began to take form from inside the pillar of light.

My hands slowly curled into fists as the person stepped out of the light which began to gradually fade , the golden glow no longer shielding him from my view and allowing me to easily recognize him.

"Fate....this is an unexpected turn of events. Are you to be my final judge before passing on?"

"I did not bring you here merely so you could move on to the afterlife Bane, on the contrary I'm here to grant you a second chance."

My eyes widened in surprise at his words before narrowing slightly, my fists unclenching and slowly lowering back down to my sides as I gazed at him curiously. This was.....unexpected to say the least.

".......Why?"

"Because fate has seen that you are the last hope for this world and the world of Remnant. You sacrificed your all to save the people of a world that you had no ties to. Tell me why?"

Upon hearing his words I looked away and clenched my fists, the image of a small ice- cream colored girl briefly flashing through my mind, bringing a small pang of sorrow that quickly turned to rage as I remembered Cinder holding her ashes.

"It was for the future.....it was for her. She was my reason to keep fighting.....and for my final act of vengeance."

As I spoke my surroundings slowly changed, slowly but surely out of the darkness a battered landscape began to take shape in front of my eyes. I watched as the kingdoms crumbled while Grimm ran rampant throughout the streets, attacking the people fleeing through the streets. The city echoed with the pained screams and cries for help, the panic only serving as a beacon calling the hordes of Grimm to join in the slaughter.

My eyes narrowed at the sight before suddenly being drawn to a comotion further down the road, looking down I watched with baited breath as team RWBY and JNPR battled for their lives, exhaustion evident on their faces even as they vigorously plowed down the aproaching horde. Yet for each one that they killed three more took its place, forcing them further and further back until they finally had nowhere to retreat.

Ruby watched with a pained expression as one by one her friends fell around her until she was the only one left. Slowly she fell to her knees, fists clenched tightly around Crescent Rose's handle before letting out a feral cry of rage, her eyes begining to glow white as the blade of her scythe was engulfed in a pure white light. Enraged she flew forward in a blur of white and red rose petals, the blade cutting through the Grimm sending heads and limbs flying throughout the courtyard before suddenly being launched out of her charge by a hard blow to her midsection. The force of which sent her crashing through several buildings, finally skidding to a halt as she lay on the ground in a broken heap, coughing up blood as the horde parted around her, giving her a wide berth as a enourmous Grimm stood over her.
