Part 37

There was a loud clang as Mercury flew into a trashcan. As he lay there groaning his partner lunged towards me, I dodged a slash from Emerald and parried another with my knife before she kicked me in the chest. I stood there, unfazed by the blow, before grabbing her leg and throwing her into a wall.

She slowly got up and turned towards me only to receive a hard blow to her temple, barely conscious she swung her sickles at me erratically before I kicked her legs out from under her and slammed her into the ground.

I raised my foot above her head but before I could land the final blow a powerful impact sent me stumbling back, I looked up and saw Mercury standing infront of her. He glared at me and got into a stance as I cracked my knuckles.

We both began circling each other for the better part of a minute, before on some unspoken signal we both charged towards the other with the intent to kill.

As he drew closer he jumped and lashed out with a spinning back kick, I reached out and caught his leg and dragged him forward into a powerful headbutt. He staggered backwards but quickly regained his balance and continued his onslaught, he dodged a punch aimed for his head and slammed his knee into my chest before following up with a hook kick that caught me right across the face.

I shook my head, ears still ringing from the force of the blow, and blocked another kick before landing a punch right in his stomach. He bent forward gasping from the impact before blocking a second strike and sidestepping a kick from me. As I turned back towards him he rushed forward and executed a flying knee.

The blow knocked me down on my bac but I quickly got up on my feet. I dodged and blocked several kicks before finally catching his leg as his roundhouse connected with my side. I raised my arm and brought my elbow down on his leg with enough force to break the bone, but oddly enough he didn't flinch.

What!?

Mercury grinned and, using my arm as a support, jumped up and drove his knee into my chest. I gritted my teeth as I felt a spike of pain shoot through my chest, as he kicked off my chest I grabbed both of his legs and swung him over my head into the ground.

As he hit the ground I rolled back to my feet and walked over to him. He coughed up blood as he turned himself over on his back before looking up at me with that smug grin of his.

"Where is Cinder Mercury? And don't bullshit me by saying you don't know because I'm really not in the mood for it."

He laughed and spat out some blood before shaking his head.

"It doesn't matter, the pieces were already in play long before you arrived in Remnant. You can't stop what's coming, no one can."

Hearing enough I stomped down on his chest to silence him only for my foot to pass through as if he was thin air. He grinned at me before disappearing, I looked back and saw Emerald was gone as well.
