"Ok,"was all I said before going back to my seat. Not long after the bell rang and I waited for everyone to file out before I walked over to her desk again.
"You wanted me to stay?" I asked. Her face grew a little red. "Cute." She cleared her throat and smiled at me.
"Y-yes heh I just um, how's your arm?,"she asked tearing her eyes from mine and moving them over to my shoulder.
"It's ok just a little sore,"I told her. It grew quiet and I decided to take a small leap. "Are you going to be cheering me on again in PE?,"I asked her. I watched as her face dropped down to her papers. She lifted her head and her eyes searched my face for an answer, a smile spread across her lips and she stood up. Grabbing her things she began walking to the door. I thought she was about to completely ditch me before she came to a stop and turned.
"I'm you're unofficial teacher cheerleader, you coming?,"I smiled and walked over to her. Trying to keep the smile off my face I tried starting small conversation all the way to the locker room. We talked about yesterday and we both said we hoped that Amy wouldn't be able to play today.
"Ok, well I'm gonna go change and I'll see you out as my cheerleader." When I walked into the locker room I saw Mae sitting there tying her shoes. She looked up at me and got up quickly.
"Hey gal pal," she said a bit to excited. I looked at her with confusion, all she did was sit me down and throw my clothes at me. "Change and I'll tell you on our way out to the roll call line." I did as told and quickly changed into a tank top and shorts. We were walking out and Mae was turning to me as I ran into someone. It was Amy.
"What you want a round two or something?,"I asked in a sassy way. She gave me a smug smile.
"Last time I checked you were under me," she snarled. "Not that I mind your body up against mine."She smirked at me and Mae dragged me away before I did something I regretted. The entire time she was shaking up and down with a big smile on her face.
"Ok, did you have too much sugar this morning or are you just losing your shit. Which is it?" All she does is shake her head. Looking around quickly she makes sure no one is around before she gets into a janitor closet and takes me with her.
"You better tell me now or I'm going to assume this is an attempt at rape." She laughs and smacks my arm. It hurt a bit more than it should but I'm fine. She lowers her voice but it sounds really mischievous.
"I saaaaw you and Msssss Jaaaames," she emphasizes the Ms, part of the sentence. My face gets hot. I wasn't quick enough and she started going off. She was screaming and enjoying herself that I had to cover her mouth before she said something out of line. Before I got the chance however there was a small knock at the door.
"Is everything ok in there?," was all I heard. It was a soft voice. I recognized it a little but not enough to know who it was. We slowly creep closer to the slits on the door and standing there is Esme. She must have been added to our PE class as well because she's dressed for gym class. Mae reaches for the door knob and opens it. Esme looks up at both of us, I don't know what her reaction is. "Wow she's got hiding her emotions down like a boss."
"Hey Esme, Mae was just being her usual dramatic boy crazed self and needed to vent." I smiled. She returned it and nodded her head.
"Mr. Aiden was about to take roll and I saw you two sneak over here." I sighed. "Way to search out the land for lingering eyes Mae" We followed her back to class and got in line.
"HART THE EQUIPMENT!" I nodded and made my way over to the shed. It was heavier than I expected but I made it back to the class and everyone separated into groups. My eyes wandered up to the bleachers where they met up with Lauren. She smiled and threw me a thumbs up and I got ready to run. Bryan gave me a few signs on where to run and I told Mae to back me up.
"HIIIKE!,"he yelled. Mae tricked everyone into making it seem like she was the receiver when actually I was sprinting my way through everyone. Before they knew it the ball was in the air and I was going for the catch. I luckily caught it and continued running until I was in the other end zone. My team cheered but the only person who had my attention at the time was Lauren. My eyes immediately went to her on the bleachers. She stood up and clapped. I couldn't help it, I raised the ball and pointed at it making a motion to show her that the touchdown was for her. Everyone was too distracted to notice except for Mae who was making kissy faces at me.
"Ooooo girl I see that,"was all she said before walking back for our next play. Mr. Aiden pulled out a speaker and played "Dynamite by Taio Cruz". Through the entire class my team and I made touchdowns, and interceptions. By the time it was over we were all excited and hyped up. All I wanted was to walk up to the bleachers and talk with Lauren. Mr. Aiden let us go and I ran straight to Lauren. She was smiling at my by the time I got to her.
"You did great Sandra." I smiled widely, I usually don't do that because my eyes squint and my dimples show. For some reason it makes me feel vulnerable with someone.
"Please call me Sandie, Sandra makes me feel like my mother is talking to me." Lauren laughs at my reference from the talk we had yesterday at her place, and nods her head.
"You did great Sandie." I thank her and we walk together over to the locker rooms for me to change. There we go our separate ways for lunch but it doesn't suck because I know I'll see her next period.
