PART THREE OF DARES
Fidgeting with the hem of your shirt, you wait for him to open the front door for you. His footsteps are muffled from behind the door but the unmistakable sound of feet padding on the wooden tiles is enough to have butterflies explode in your chest.
Quickly averting your gaze to the window, you give yourself a once over, pleased that your effort to look presentable has somewhat paid off. You focus back in on the door as it opens, revealing a bored looking Jin.
"Hey, come in. Did you find the place ok?"
You follow in carefully, slipping off your shoes and pushing them to the side as you hum out an ok to his question. He turns on the balls of his feet, facing you with an unrecognisable grin as his eyes shamelessly run over your figure.
"You look good. You should dress like that more often." He mutters, a slight growl escaping his lips at the end of the last word. Your ears redden as you smile, breezily brushing past him to get to the couch.
"Thanks. Shall we get started then?" You ask, sitting yourself down cross legged on the couch. He allows his gaze to remain on you for a few more seconds before breaking out into an innocent smile. "Yeah, lets get started."
You watch nervously as he pulls out a few folders. After setting them up in front of you, he leans back, stretching out comfortably.
"These will have everything you need to know about the event we are attending and the people coming. If I'm to take over my dad's position, I need to impress all of these guys." You look up at him, eyes widening in disbelief.
"You are going to run Kim Co?" Failing miserably at hiding the tone of shock in your voice, you watch as Jin leans forward to scowl at you.
"You don't think I can do it? Is that what this is? I'm truly wounded by that statement." He exclaims, pressing his hand to his chest dramatically. You can't help but roll your eyes.
"No, not at all. It's just that you sound so serious about this. I'm shocked at how badly you want this. It must be tough, huh?" You sympathise, shuffling a little closer to him. He nods, letting his head drop. You softly smile at how vulnerable he looks and sigh.
"I don't think you need to be worried about impressing them. Just stick to who you are and the position will fall into your hands." You state honestly, hoping that it gives him some sort of confidence.
"I hope so. I just think having someone like you attached to my side will make it that little bit easier, y'know. Plus, my dad still isn't convinced that I can do this."
Smirking, you place your hand on top of his in a supportive manner. "Well, lets prove him wrong. Give me the details on this event."
He picks up a beige folder and flips to the first page, pulling it out to place it on the coffee table. "It's a charity ball. All of my father's friends turn up to raise money but behind the scenes, it's a game they all play to see who's got the most money behind them. My father has won three times, his success being the one reason he can hold his head up with a smile. Now, it's my turn to carry the success."
You read through the rankings, getting dizzy because of all the numbers on the page. He picks up another piece and hands it over to you. "While I have no fear about our money, I'm more concerned about my image. As you can probably guess, my reputation is well known among the families and in most cases, is frowned upon."
"Most?" You question, an odd feeling of jealousy creeping up your spin.
"Hmm, if I was to show up to this particular event alone, I would be arranged into a marriage with someone of similar habits to mine. The marriage wouldn't be for love but for money. Her family's business would merge with mine to create an unstoppable reign upon the minor businesses floating around."
You frown at the news, picking up the maroon folder with a little bit of force. Jin sighs, taking it gently out of your hold. "I'm not sure if you understood, sweetcheeks, but bringing you means I don't get married."
You smile sheepishly, once again shuffling over to read over his shoulder. "Are these the families attending?"
"Oh yeah. You have to be careful around these guys. They can tear you down and rip you to shreds in a matter of seconds. But don't worry your pretty little head, I won't leave your side so they can't do too much damage. The least they can do is pick on your dress which reminds me we have to go shopping for that."
You shake a little, pointing to the first family on the page. "Who are they?"
"The Parks. Their business is focused solely on music, each member in the family talented in that area of expertise. The parents are total suck ups, they'll do anything to get on my father's good side. Their son, however, is a snarky little snake. Park Jimin can manipulate like crazy. Not to mention his looks are as seductive as they can get. Do not engage with him. I don't want to lose my fake girlfriend to a man like him."
Fake or not, your heart soars at the statement. "How about them?"
"The Kim brothers. No, we are not related but they are. Namjoon and Taehyung got their shit started from scratch. No parents or family to depend on. I admire them, honestly. They stay quiet and don't talk to others unless necessary. I've had my fair share of interactions and truly believe they shouldn't be caught up in shit like this. They're too sweet."
You point to the next family, looking at him expectantly. He sighs, closing the book. "The last family is the Jeon-Jung family. Jeon Jungkook, the CEO is married to Jung Hoseok's sister. This caused their once small businesses to blossom into one of the top three in the world. My father envíes them with everything in his blood."
You curse, leaning back with a groan. He watches in amusement, letting a small chuckle leave his lips,
"Glad you find my suffering amusing, asshole."
He beams as he chokes out laughs, soon forcing you to join in. After he calms down, a smile takes over his usual frown. "I've dealt with this for a long time. Just stay with me and follow my lead. Everything will be fine."
You nod, feeling comfortable in his presence. He cracks a lopsided grin and clears his throat.
"We were supposed to get to know each other, Y/N. So, what do I have to know about you?"
