CALM DOWN

- in which a traumatic experience has you fearing for your life as you run down the street, directly into the arms of someone who swears he'll protect you. slight trigger warning.

"The Jeon Jungkook?" Your friend sputters, disbelief written all over her pretty face as she flattens her palm over her mouth overdramatically. You roll your eyes in response to her reaction and nod calmly, aware of the way the heat crawling up your neck tickles your cheeks a soft pink, your fingers fiddling with the straps of your backpack to distract yourself from that knowledge.

She chuckles excitedly, hooking her arm through yours to tug you into her side. You grunt at the way she pulls at your arm but find yourself laughing along, your head shaking fondly at her expected behaviour to the news.

"I can't believe it," she mutters, her eyes wide and full of shock, the flecks of gold in them sparkling adorably in the light of the sun's soft glow. Confused as to why she's so incredulous to your news, you pout, flicking her a pointed look of annoyance.

"Why is it so hard to believe?" You ask quietly, tilting your head as her features soften into a look of apology and reassurance.

"No, no, there's nothing bad about it," she grins cheekily. "I'm just a little surprised by the fact that you like Jungkook, that's all."

Ah, of course. You, the quiet girl that always sits at the front of the class and daydreams too much, like Jungkook, the only guy who has ever been able to render you speechless and just so happens to have every other girl at school running after him. How odd.

"He may just like you back, Y/N," she hums, noticing the way your shoulders drop in defeat and the excitement that you had in you only a few seconds ago drains from your demeanour. "I mean, you are the only girl I've seen him willingly say hi to. Please, don't overthink this. You may actually have a chance with him."

Offering her a slow and totally unconvincing nod, you pull yourself away from her side and hike a thumb in the direction of the convenience store across the road. "I'm going to get something to eat. Wanna come?"

She shakes her head, waving the phone she has in her hand in front of your face. "Can't. Dad's been blowing up my phone about being late."

Despite your stomach slowly beginning to churn with dread, you pull her into your arms and give her a tight squeeze, your smile growing when you hear her giggle and return your embrace with the same amount of enthusiasm.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Y/N," she yells out to you as you wave at her from the curb, your smile effortless as you cross the road cautiously, pushing the churning of your stomach to the back of your mind.

You grunt at the weight of the glass door as you push it open, your teeth worrying your bottom lip as you calmly squeeze yourself into the nearest aisle, looking behind you to see the door ever so gently shutting you in the almost uncomfortable warmth of the convenience store.

Choosing not to dwell on the way your school uniform slowly begins to stick to you with the sudden sheet of sweat that coats your skin, you navigate yourself through the oddly crowded store in search of some of your favourite snacks, politely excusing yourself past small groups of people.

Although, the thought of there being more people than usual inside the store lingers in your mind as you locate the packets of snacks near the front of the store, your lips pressed into a thin line of relief.

Perhaps the thought only sticks around because it reminds you of the uneasiness you felt outside, the churning of your stomach once again becoming noticeable.
