37. Grace's Maid of Honor Speech

I sat at the reception of mine and my newly wedded husband Shawn Mendes's wedding. Him and I were sitting next to each other while holding hands and talking. His best friend, Brian, had just made his best man speech, and I loved it.

"I never knew that you had said that stuff about me at the engagement party." I said, referring to what Brian said Shawn had said about how much he loves me. Shawn blushed and smiled.

"Yeah. I just love you a lot." He said as he brushed a stray hair out of my face. I smiled.

"Well I just love you a lot too." I said, and Shawn's smile widened. Soon, my best friend Grace got up and began to make her speech.

"Hi everyone, I'm Grace, Y/n's maid of honor, and I've been best friends with Y/n since January of 2017. When I met her, she was already a really big fan of Shawn's but they didn't meet until two years later. I remember getting a text from Y/n and she said that she had just met Shawn Mendes and he had asked her out on a date. I was at work when I got the text, so I didn't see it until later. Later on she texted me and told me to come by her house that night, and when I did, we went in her room, and told me all about the date. Y/n had seen Shawn in concert the night before and obviously she had seen pictures and videos of him, but I remember her saying to me 'Grace, there's something about him. He's special and I have a feeling that he's going to have an impact on my life.' and obviously, as everyone can tell, he has. Y/n and Shawn went on their second date the next day, and that was the first time that they kissed. When Y/n told me about the kiss, she couldn't stop smiling and she kept saying that she had gotten such magical feelings from the kiss. I recently asked her if she still gets those feelings, and her exact words were 'Hell yeah!'

Shawn, I don't know if you realize how happy you make my best friend. Just like you said to Brian, Y/n once told me that she's pretty sure that you put the stars in sky - she said that you're tall enough to do it - and she's also pretty sure that you're the reason why things are right in the world. She even once called you a Canadian god.

When Y/n and Shawn were still getting to know each other, they would be texting nonstop. Sometimes Shawn would even call or Facetime, so Y/n would answer and step out of the room. But when they were texting, there would be times when I would be hanging out with her, her mom, and her brother, but she was too busy talking to Shawn to participate in the conversation and hang out with us, so it got to the point that we kind of yelled at her. I'll never forget that she looked upset when we yelled at her and she said 'You guys don't understand how I feel about him. I know that I'm young, but he's the one for me, and I want to get to know him, so that's what I'm doing.' and so we just simply told her to cut back on the texting a little, which she did.

I'll never forget Y/n texting me and telling me that Shawn asked her to be his girlfriend and she had said yes. She was so happy, and I was so happy when I finally got to meet him. They hadn't even been dating for twenty-four hours and they already seemed so in love with each other, sitting on the couch with their arms around each other. They still sit on the couch like that.

I'll also never forget when I got a Facetime from Y/n and she held up her hand to show me her engagement ring. Shawn was sitting next to her, and I literally screamed with joy. I had been the one to go with Shawn to help pick out the ring, and he was nervous that she would say no, but I reassured him that she would say yes.

Y/n fell in love with Shawn the moment that she met him when she was twenty years old, and he was twenty one years old. By the third date, Y/n wanted to say I love you, but held back. They had been dating for three months when she finally said it to him, and I think that the only reason why it came out then was because she was a bit buzzed, but Shawn still said it back, and that made Y/n very happy. When Y/n had Facetimed me to tell me that Shawn had proposed and that she had said yes, she couldn't stop smiling and she kept saying 'I get to marry my best friend! Grace, I get to marry my best friend!' and Shawn would smile at her as he looked at her with so much love in his eyes. Shawn and Y/n, I wish you many, many, many years of happiness and love. Congratulations you guys. I love you both." Grace said. Shawn and I got up and hugged her.

"That was beautiful, thank you so much." I said.

"You're welcome. I love you." She said.

"I love you too." I said, and then Shawn hugged her. I'm so glad to have such great people in my life.
