Shawn's point of view
I sat on the couch in the living room of the house that I share with my wife of three months, Y/n Mendes. I had my head in my hands. Y/n and I just got into our first fight as a married couple and she left because she was so upset. She said that she needed to go for a drive and needed to clear her mind. My phone rang, and even though I didn't recognize the number, I felt like I should pick up.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Is this Mr. Shawn Mendes?" A male asked.
"Yes. May I ask who is calling?" I asked.
"Hi, this is Dr. Collins from (local hospital). We regret to inform you that your wife is here due to a car accident." He said. I stood up.
"Is she okay?" I asked.
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but she's in a coma." Dr. Collins said.
"Can I visit her right now?" I asked.
"Yes. She's in room 201." He said.
"Okay. I'll be right there." I said, and we hung up. I then called my mother in law.
"Hey Shawn." She said.
"Hey Y/m/n, I just got a call from (local hospital), Y/n was in a car accident and she's in a coma." I said as I put on my shoes and grabbed my keys.
"Oh my gosh. I'll go to the hospital now." She said, and we hung up. I got to the hospital and immediately went to my wife's room. When I saw her, my heart broke. Her head was wrapped in gauze and she was in a hospital gown. I sat down in the chair next to her bed and gently grabbed her hand. I rubbed the top of her hand with my thumb. The doctor came in.
"Hi Doc. How is she? When will she wake up?" I asked. The doctor sighed.
"Well, she's in critical condition as of right now. We don't when, well, we don't know if she'll wake up." Dr. Collins said.
"I'm sorry, did you just say if?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yes. Do you know where she was heading when she got into the car accident?" Dr. Collins asked. I shook my head.
"No. Possibly to a bench in the city that's dedicated to her uncle. Her and I, um, we got into our first fight as a married couple and she left. This is all my fault. Oh my gosh this is all my fault." I said as I put my head in my hands and began to cry.
"Mr. Mendes, this isn't your fault. The other driver admitted that he wasn't paying attention when he smashed into your wife's car." Dr. Collins said. I picked my head up and looked at my wife as I nodded. The doctor left the room. I held her hand again and kissed it. I took my other hand and used it to turn her head so she was looking towards me even though her eyes were closed.
"So beautiful." I whispered. I then heard a knock at the door and turned to see Y/n's mother and father walk in.
"Hi Shawn. How is she?" Her dad asked. I sighed.
"They're, um, they're not sure if she's going to wake up. This is all my fault." I said. Her parents seemed to get choke up.
"How is this your fault?" Her mom asked.
"We got into a fight and she said that she needed to go for a drive, so she left. I guess the driver that hit her admitted that he wasn't paying attention." I said.
"See? It's not your fault, it's the other driver's fault." Her mom said. I nodded. Her parents stayed for a while.
"Well, you should go home and get some rest Shawn." Her dad said. I shook my head as I stared at my wife.
"No. I won't leave her. We promised each other that we wouldn't leave each other on our wedding day. In sickness and in health, til death do us part. Look at her. How is it possible that she's so beyond beautiful and gorgeous, even after such a terrible accident?" I asked as I gazed at her lovingly.
"Okay. Just, try and sleep if you can at some point Shawn. Please take care of yourself too." Her mom pleaded. I nodded.
"Okay." I said. I gave them hugs goodbye and then they left.
I sat in the chair as I held her hand. I brought it up to my lips and kissed it. I then leaned forward and kissed her forehead gently and then sat back down. A nurse walked in and her eyes went wide when she saw me.
"Shawn Mendes?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yup. How is she? Is there anything that I can do to help her wake up?" I asked. The nurse gawked at me for a moment.
"Could I get a picture with you please?" She asked.
"Miss, my wife is in a coma right now, and you guys aren't sure if she's going to wake up at all. I don't mind taking a photo, but I would like to know what I can do to help my wife." I said.
"Sorry, that was unprofessional of me. Um, well, talking to her might help. You can talk to her about anything. Holding her hand like you're doing now can help. Try stuff like that. I'm nurse Ashley by the way." She said.
"Okay, thank you." I said. We took the picture but it was hard for me to smile. As the nurse took the picture, the nurse, Ashley, turned her head and tried to kiss my cheek. I moved away. "What the hell?"
"Sorry. I just, your wife is in a coma Shawn. She won't know what happens while she's not awake." She said with a smirk.
"I would never do that to my wife. I want a new nurse for my wife." I said. She sighed and left the room. The doctor came in and I told him what happened with Ashley. He was surprised, but said that Y/n would have a new nurse as soon as possible. I thanked him.
"You're welcome." He said, and then left the room. I looked at Y/n. What should I talk to her about?
"Hi darling. You're going to wake up from this, I know that you will. You're the strongest person that I know. I'm sorry about the fight. Do you know how much I love you? Let me tell you: I love you more than a billion love songs could try to explain. I love you deeper than the deepest of oceans, and higher than the highest of mountains. I remember when I saw you for the first time, I knew that you were the one for me right away. I didn't give a damn about the fact that you wanted to wait for marriage before we had sex. In fact, I'm glad that we waited. It made things better, more special and meaningful. I'm so happy that you trusted me enough to let me take your virginity. Remember our wedding day? It was a magical. The most magical day ever. Remember how I cried when I saw you walking down the aisle? God you looked gorgeous. You always do my love. Listen to me Y/n Mendes: I'm not going to leave your side, and you're going to wake up from this. Don't give up on me. Don't you dare give up on me, because this may sound selfish but I can't live without you." I said as I began to cry.
A few weeks went by with barely any signs of improvement. She had plenty of visitors that weren't even family. Andrew, my manager, Jake, my security guard, my family visited, and some of my friends, Geoff, Brian, and Jon. I was sitting next to her bed one day when I felt her hand twitch.
"Y/n?" I asked. No response. "Squeeze my hand if you can hear me babe." I said. She squeezed my hand. I pressed the call nurse button and a nurse came in right away.
"Keep talking to her." The nurse said.
"Mrs. Mendes, it's me, your husband. Can you wake up for me darling? Please? I'm right here, and I'm not leaving your side, I promise." I said. She squeezed my hand again and I let out a sob of relief when I saw her open her eyes. She looked at me.
"Shawn? What am I doing here?" She asked.
"You were in a car accident." I said. She nodded.
"How long was I out for?" She asked. I sighed.
"Three weeks." I said. Her eyes widened.
"Are you serious?" She said. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said.
"How do you feel Mrs. Mendes?" The nurse asked.
"I'm okay I guess." She said. The doctor came in, and after staying in the hospital for a little bit, I was able to take her home. Her and I made up from the fight. I'm so glad that she woke up and that she's okay again. I love her so much.
