I opened the front door and dropped my book bag on the floor by the kitchen table. I grabbed a Dr. Pepper from the fridge and headed up stairs.

Once I got to my room I threw myself down on my bed and stared up at my star painted ceiling. I will be so glad when this day is over.

"Riv, is that you?" My mom called from down stairs.

"Are you expecting someone else?" I yelled.

"Funny."

It's pretty quiet which tells me that my brother must be at his dad's house for the night. We don't have the same father, thank god. His dad and I didn't see eye to eye. He's always been a good dad to Grayson though, so I'll give him credit for that. We used to get along pretty well, but after Grayson was born he just never seemed too interested in me. My mom finally caught on and she ended things. She's always been good that way, my brother and I always come first to her.

I don't know my father, mom said it was better that way. I never questioned her about it because it always seemed to painful for her to discuss. I have two uncles and they stepped up anytime I needed a father figure or a date for a father daughter dance.

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs to my room so I tried to act like I was asleep.

"You aren't fooling anyone, You can't possibly be that tired." She said, sitting down on the bed.

" It's been a stressful day mom."

" What's so stressful about the last day of school?"

" Oh, I don't know. Getting locked out of the house and sitting at the neighbors with someone who hates me."

" Who hates you?"

" Blaise."

" I'm sure he doesn't hate you. He's a teenage boy, they are weird creatures." she said smiling down at me.

" For sure."

" Do you want me to say something to Hunter?"

" MOM NO!"

" Okay, okay. Well what should we do for dinner?"

"Chicken parm please."

" Again?"

I stuck my bottom lip out and pouted " Pllleeassee."

" Fine. But It's nice out, we should eat out back on the deck."

"You are just trying to get me to go outside for fresh air aren't you?" I said squinting my eyes.

"Sure am, now come down stairs and tell me about your last day."

" Do I have to?"

"Yup. Besides, you need to go get your book bag out of my kitchen anyway."

" Ugh! Okay let me change first."

I changed into a pair of Capri yoga pants and a long sleeve crop top and headed down the stairs. After dinner was made we went outside to eat on the deck.

" Something smells good." Hunter said walking out of his back door.

"Hey Hunter! Thanks for letting River hang out today."

"No problem Savvy." He said flashing her a smile.

" You hungry? We have plenty." she offered.

"Thanks, but I just ordered me and the boys some pizza, I'm headed out now to pick it up. Catch you guys later."

"Suit yourself." mom said flipping her long blonde hair over her shoulder.

I can never tell if shes flirting or just being nice. I raised my eyebrow at her questioningly.
