I was getting a little worried that Elijah hadn't brought River home from her lesson yet. I was outside helping my dad plant some flowers and I kept checking the time on my phone. After the way he acted yesterday I really don't trust him. Maybe they just went to get something to eat afterwards."Son, why do you keep checking your phone like that? Am I boring you that bad?"
"Sorry, It's just that River is usually home by now." I said looking down the street to see if I could see Elijah's truck coming.
"If you are that concerned why don't you just call her." he asked eyeing me. " Why are you concerned anyway? Is something going on?"
"I just don't trust this Elijah guy. Something about him just seems .. off."
"Are you sure it's not just jealousy?"
"I don't get jealous, not like that. I'm telling you, something isn't right with this kid. But Savannah has met him and she loves him, she's usually a better judge of character. He's a smooth talker and he has all of them believing he's some great guy."
"Well, Elijah isn't the issue today." He said looking at the road behind me. "Heads up." He nodded.
I turned around to see Trevor pulling up with River in the front seat. I should have known he would go straight over there to confront Elijah without me.
River got out of the SUV and walked over with Trevor following close behind. He was staring at her butt the whole way, I wanted to punch him. Okay, so maybe I do have a little streak of jealousy, but at least I have enough sense not to act on it.
"Hey guys." She said smiling at my dad and I.
"Hey." I smiled back "I was getting a little worried, I thought that Elijah kidnapped you."
"Nope, that was me." Trevor said. "She's done with him."
"He means I won't be taking lessons from him anymore. I'll decided for myself if I want to be friends with him." She glared at him which made my dad laugh.
I know he's comparing her to Savannah, she really is her mother's daughter.
"River that guy is a manipulative scumbag." Trevor said looking to me for support.
"She knows I don't like him, but she's a big girl and can make her own decisions." I said shrugging my shoulders.
"Thank you Blaise." She smiled. "Well, I need to go hop in the shower. Are you going to hang out around here or will I just see you tonight?" She addressed her question to Trevor.
"Text me when you're done, I might still be around." He smiled at her.
"K." She turned to me. "Talk later?"
I nodded.
"You guys need some help?" Trevor asked.
"Sure, Grab a shovel." Dad said.
We dug up the dead plants from the front flower bed and began planting new flowers. While we worked Trevor filled us in on his time in Alabama.
He said he spent most nights a local bar with Spears. Spears spoke to the owner and they allowed Trevor to sing a few cover songs each night. I was surprised because I thought Trevor gave up on music. I always thought he was talented and he picked up on instruments pretty quickly. I wonder why the sudden change of heart though. I'm sure Spears probably had something to do with it.
"Are you going to start recording now?" I asked.
"Nah, It was just for fun. Singing for a live audience is way better than being stuck in a studio all day. Speaking of the studio though, River told me that you guys have been working on one of her moms songs. She wants you to come to dinner tonight so we can work on it."
