For months I have been trying to figure out the girl next door. I've wondered what she's like and why I rarely ever see her outside. When school started I would steal glances of her, trying to piece together in my mind what I thought she might be like. I needed to know what was going on underneath all of that long brown hair and behind those ice blue eyes. She caught me looking at her a few times which was a little embarrassing.

It's been just over a year since River Weston moved next door with her mom and little brother, and until tonight we had barely spoken a full sentence to each other. I've always thought she was cute, but recently I've found it to be extremely difficult to stop thinking about her. That's why I had to end things with Sarah, it just wasn't fair to her.

Besides, Sarah was never really my type anyway. Sure she's a pretty girl, petite blonde with curves in all the right places, but there wasn't much else to her. Honestly I thought I wouldn't have a chance in hell in getting Rivers attention, with her being so recluse and all. But then I saw her watching me and Sarah in the hall at school today and she winked at me this morning at the bus stop. It made me wonder if maybe she had a thing for me too.

Just when I started to work myself up to get to know her better, Trevor swooped in. Trevor may be my oldest friend but he's not good enough for River.
I love the guy, he's practically a brother to me. But he can be a total ass sometimes and he doesn't always treat girls well either. Up until now I've never had to worry about Trevor and I liking the same girl. We have completely different taste in girls. It's killing me because I can't tell if River is into that pretty rich boy type or not. One thing I do know, Trevor moves way too fast for a girl like River.

I still can't believe she kissed him, Dare or not. She enjoyed it just as much as he did. I don't know whether to back off and let this train wreck with her and Trevor unfold or do I keep to my plan to get to know her better?

I looked over and saw Trevor looking at Rivers Instagram.

" Trevor..."

"Yeah?"

"What's your deal with River?"

Trevor put the phone down and sat up. "What do you mean what's my deal?"

"She's not even your type, and she's my neighbor. If this shit goes south it's going to get real awkward around here."

"Maybe I'm sick of my usual type, maybe a girl like River is what I need this summer."

"This summer? And then what Trevor? You throw her away like a broken toy when school starts again?"

"Why do you care so much? I asked you if you liked her, you said no. So stop riding my ass about this. Besides, that girl is already falling for me."

"I highly doubt that dude, I don't even think she likes you."

"Trust me, after that kiss.. that girl is as good as mine."

"Yeah okay."

"Five bucks says she shows up to the game tomorrow wearing my hoodie."

"How does that prove anything?"

"Easy. If she shows up to the game wearing my hoodie then she's into me. She could have flat out refused to take it but she didn't. Lord knows she wouldn't have thought twice about shooting me down again. She's into me dude. She's probably sleeping in it right now, smelling my cologne."

"You think everyone is in to you, you're wrong about this one."

Trevor laughed and said "You'll see. Now lets gets some rest, I know this is just a charity game but you know I hate to lose. Besides, We don't want to look like losers in front of River now do we?"
