By the time I woke up the next day, the swelling in my face had gone down but the bruising was terrible. There was no way I was going to be able to cover this up with makeup so I didn't even bother trying.I slipped on a pair of distressed Jeans and a shirt and grabbed my phone from my night stand. Once I powered it on, notifications popped up one after the other. I was only concerned with the time though.
I had been so exhausted from yesterday that I managed to sleep in until 12:45. No wonder my stomach was so angry with me, I was starving.
When I got downstairs Grayson was sitting at the table with mom eating lunch.
"Sissy! What happened to your face?"
I looked to mom hoping for some help. I wasn't sure if she wanted me to tell Grayson about the fight.
"Sissy was playing baseball with her friends and got hit in the face by a foul ball." Mom said shrugging her shoulders at me when Grayson turned to study my face.
"How many times?" He asked scrunching up his little nose.
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Can we leave now mommy since sissy's awake?"
"Soon baby."
"Where are we going?" I asked making myself a bowl of cereal.
"To the beach!" he exclaimed.
"Cool."
"After you eat, go pack and then we will head out."
"Pack?" I asked confused.
I assumed we were going to makeout beach.
"Yeah, we are going to The Bishops beach house for two weeks."
"What? Mom no! Blaise leaves for football camp tomorrow! We had plans today, can't we just go down tomorrow?"
"Honey, he lives next door, he will be here when you get home. It's been a crazy summer and I think we all need this trip. We are leaving in an hour."
"Mom!"
"River Please don't fight me on this, it's only two weeks. If you hurry up and pack you can go next door and spend the rest of the hour with him."
"Ugh! Fine."
I left my bowl of cereal on the counter, the thought of leaving Blaise for two weeks without one last day with him caused me to lose my appetite.
I ran up stairs and packed as fast as I could and then headed over to Blaise's house. I walked in and headed up the stairs. Lennox and Blaise were sitting on the edge of the bed playing a video game.
"Hey." I said leaning against the door frame.
"Hey beautiful." Blaise said dropping his controller on the bed and walking over to me.
He studied my bruises for a few seconds before pulling me into a hug.
"We are leaving in 40 minutes." I said burying my face in his chest.
"I know."
"Len, do you mind letting us have a moment?" I asked when she made no moves to leave.
I was going to have to find a way to talk to her about giving us some space without hurting her feelings. She's my best friend and I love her but she is almost always with Blaise. I love that they are so close, but she doesn't always get the hint when we want to be alone.
"Huh? Oh .. yeah sure." She said.
She put the controller on his night stand and Paused in the doorway. "Try not to break anything important at football camp." She smiled and then walked out.
