Blaise and I texted back and forth for most of the car ride, I was still pouting about having to leave him.
But mom was right, we all needed this vacation. When we were halfway there I noticed my mom began to tense up. She was fidgety and kept exchanging glances with my father. I noticed a large airfield on my left with military planes and I knew, this was the Air Force base where she had spent so much time with my father.
This was where her heart shattered. Even though things are good with them now, it was obvious that the pain of that day will forever haunt them both.
He reached across the center console and took her hand in his, planting a kiss on her palm.
Once the base was out of view I heard my mother release the breath she was holding.
"I Love you Vannah." My father said lacing his fingers with hers.
"I love you too." She smiled at him but I could hear the sadness in her tone.
Clearly there was still some healing that needed to be done here.
The rest of the car ride was pretty uneventful. It was starting to get dark when we pulled up to the beach house. It was beautiful and just steps away from the water. Not the place I'd want to be in the event of a hurricane. Despite its large size, there was something cozy about the look of it.
When we grabbed our bags from the trunk, I was surprised to see my guitar. Dad said he brought it in hopes that we would have a chance to play together. I was actually looking forward to that, we hadn't had the chance to sing or play together with everything that had been going on.
But right now all I could think about was getting settled and then going to get some food. I was starving since I hadn't had the chance to eat yet, minus the bag of sweedish fish Blaise gave me for the road. As soon as the door opened, I could smell the wonderful aroma of food and my tummy growled.
"Welcome!" Bianca said holding the door open for us.
"I'm making dinner, so I hope someone's hungry."
"I'm starving!" I hugged her.
Bianaca showed us all to our rooms and then we sat down for dinner. Trevor was nowhere to be found and I was scanning the table for his place setting when Bianca caught on.
"Trevor won't be joining us for dinner, he said he had plans tonight." She gave me a half smile.
I guess he was still avoiding me. Great, this trip was going to be super fun.
"River, How are you feeling today? Those bruises look painful."
"It looks worse than it feels." I shrugged.
"I have some Vitamin K cream in my bag, I'll get it for you before bed. If you use it twice a day, the bruising should be gone before school starts." She smiled.
"Thank you."
" So what do you guys what to do after dinner?" Bianca asked.
"I thought maybe we could just hang out here tonight, Grayson didn't take a nap today and I don't want River to overdue it."
"I'm fine mom."
"I know, I just want you to get a full 24 hours of rest before we do anything just to be sure."
"I think we have some board games around here somewhere."
"Do you have Uno?" Grayson asked.
"I think I do actually." Bianaca beamed at him.
