Chapter 7- River

River: Chapter 7

I spent all last night talking to Amberlee and Lennox about everything that has happened in the past two days. Of course Amberlee was super excited that I'm going on a date, Lennox on the other hand was less than thrilled. Mostly because its Trevor. I guess the rumors of his womanizing ways are also known in Middle school too. Funny, I never knew much about him until two days ago. They helped me pick an outfit out via facetime, and by they I mean Amberlee. Lennox wanted me to wear sweatpants and a stained t shirt.

I heard dishes clanking downstairs so I knew my mom must be up. I headed down stairs  trying to muster some courage on my way.
If I'm going to go on this date I'm going to have to convince my mother first.

"Hey mom, good morning. Hows Grayson?"

" Morning. He's better still pretty wore out though".

I peeked around her to see Grayson laying on the couch watching cartoons.

"So um, I was kinda wondering if I could go out tonight."

"Go out where? And with whom?"

" I was sort of asked out on a date."

"O my god! Really!? By who?"

"Trevor."

"Who's Trevor?"

"The guy from the other night, Blaise's best friend."
"You mean the hot shot with the mustang? How old is he?"

" He's 16."

"And he's in 10th grade?"

"Actually no, I found out last night that he's a Junior."

"River.."

"Mom, please don't say no. You are the one that said I needed to get out more and be social. Plus i'll be 15 in less than 2 months, so it's not like he's THAT much older."

"I didn't even think you liked this kid."

"I'm still not sure I do, but the only way I'm going to find out is by hanging out with him."

" I see. How does Blaise feel about this?  And where is this date taking place?"

"Blaise? What does he have to do with anything? I actually don't know where we are going, I just know it involves tacos."

"I don't know, I just always thought that....never mind. Tacos huh? Sure seems like he already knows you." Moms said laughing.

"How do you two plan on getting to this date of yours?"

I stared blankly at her because I knew what was coming next.

"Riv you know how I feel about teenage boys and muscle cars. It's a very dangerous combination."

" I know."

"I'm not sure I even want you in any car with a teenage driver and I can't take you anywhere today because Grayson needs to stay in until he's 100% again."

"I understand, I'll go cancel the date."

" I didn't say you had to cancel the date Riv, but can he maybe borrow his parents car for the night?"

"Oh my god! Thank you mom! I'll text him and see."

"Now hold on a minute. River this is a big deal, not just for you, being your first date and all but for me as well. You know how protective I  am, so I am trusting you to use your head. No drinking, no inappropriate physical contact and you need to be home by 10pm."

"Mom I know, and what exactly do you mean by no physical contact?"

"River... "

"OH! EW MOM! That's disgusting"
