I had never witnessed a panic attack before and I felt completely helpless in that moment. I don't know what was bothering me more, the fact that I didn't know what to do for her or the fact that Trevor seemed to know exactly what to do. He always seemed to know.
"Hey man. You good?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah." I said as I watched River perform.
"You know your my boy right and you know I love River, but I gotta say it.... this right here..." He said pointing to River and Trevor. "This is some bullshit."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm just sayin', you need to keep an eye on that."
"I Trust her."
"Yeah you keep saying that but how much do you trust him? She ain't just your girlfriend dawg, yall are sharing. Maybe not physically, but most definitely emotionally."
I began to watch her closely. I didn't want it to be true, but her body language and the way she gazed at him, this wasn't just a performance. The way he was able to bring her out of that panic attack so quickly, that wasn't normal. She's In love with him.
After the song was over River came over and wrapped her arms around me.
"I'm sorry." She said looking up at me.
"Sorry for what?"
"For the panic attack, I hope I didn't scare you."
"River you don't need to apologize for that. I'm just glad you are ok."
"I am." She smiled up at me.
Yeah, because of him, I thought to myself. I wanted to confront her, I wanted to kick his ass, But this wasn't the time or the place. This night was so important to her, I was not going to do anything to ruin it. I couldn't do that to her.
"Blaise?"
"Yeah?"
"Is everything ok?"
"Yeah." I said pulling her closer. "Everything is fine."
"Promise?"
"I promise." I said kissing the tip of her nose.
"I guess I better go give this speech." She said burying her face in my chest.
"Do you want me to come with you?"
She shook her head no.
"Could you maybe just stand where I can see you, so I can focus on you incase I get nervous?"
"Of course baby. Now get out there and win them over."
She smiled and started to walk away. Stopping a few feet away, she turned to face me.
"I love you."
"I love you too." I smiled.
She grabbed the microphone and walked out onto the dance floor. Everyone began to crowd around and I made sure I stood where she could see me.
Her eyes found mine and she smiled. I waited for her to speak but it was as if the words had escaped her. She was on the verge of another panic attack.
I started to go to her when I noticed movement to my left. Trevor had made his way through the crowd and was now standing a few feet away from me. Her eyes darted from me to him. He nodded and smiled at her, she took a deep breath and finally began to speak.
Trevor and I locked eyes and I could tell by the look on his face that he knew I had figured it out. He knew that I was aware that she was in love with him and that bastard had the fucking nerve to grin at me.
