I see i had you all anxious..
You and Roger stepped into Ben's class and saw parents standing at the back of the room, some giving you smiles while some gave you looks. "Mr and Mrs Taylor! Since you're famous around here, why don't you go first?" Ben's teacher asked, smiling at Roger. You walked to the back of the room, shaking your head lightly.
"My name is Roger Taylor, i'm Ben's father and i'm the drummer for a band called Queen-" Roger started to talk about what he does, explaining that he doesn't only play the drums but also writes songs and sings, telling how his career started and how long he's been in the music business for.
"Mrs. Taylor? How about you come up here and maybe answer some questions. I know you helped the band a lot." The teacher said, you sighed and walked to the front of class, standing next to Roger. "Right, I sometimes write songs for the band, sometimes help with songs. I also sing backup and fill in for someone in the band if they're sick. For example, once Roger was sick and i did a concert with the band for a few days, playing the drums." You explained, a parent raised her hand. "I'm pretty sure we've all seen the newspaper. Freddie Mercury announced he has aids? Anything about that?" The parent smiled coldly at you. "First of all. That's none of your business and this is the part where kids ask questions about our job to learn about. Not for the parents." Roger snapped, taking the words out of your mouth. "Right then.." The mother whispered. "Kids? Questions? And preferably about our jobs, not Freddie's." You said, a few hands raised.
"Will Freddie be alright? I know that's a deadly disease." A another one asked. "Did i ask for your concern?" You fired back, the person widened their eyes, surprised of your boldness.
"Roger, call for you." The teacher sighed, handing him the phone. You couldn't hear what Roger was saying, but he seemed to shocked to speak. He hung up the phone. "What?" You asked, forgetting there was a room of little toddlers and parents. "It's about Freddie." He said, you grew anxious. "What? What about him?" You demanded silently, coming closer to Roger. "Freddie passed away." Roger said, hearing tiny gasps. "No. No he didn't, tell me he didn't die!" You whispered, tears coming down your face, grabbing Roger's shirt and shaking him lightly. Roger only nodded. "We have to go." You mumbled, looking at the teacher with red eyes. With a loud cry, your ran out of the building, Roger stopping you just in front of your car.
"Love, there's nothing we can do. He's gone." Roger said, grabbing your shoulders, his eyes just as red as yours. "He can't be! W-we were going to visit him just today-" You started to cry, falling onto your knees. "No, no, no!" You screamed into Roger's shirt as he fell to the ground with you, his arms around you as you both cried.
If only you knew that at the studio would be the last time you saw him, you really would make the moment last.
You cried in Roger's neck, gripping onto his shirt. "This can't be happening!" You whispered, feeling someone tap your shoulders. You both looked up to see Mary, her makeup running down her face just like yours. You got up from the floor and hugged her as she cried. You remembered you were in front of Ben's school and probably had embarrassed him enough for the day so you suggested going into the car.
"I can't believe it." Roger said. "None of us can.." Mary mumbled. "I had an instinct, when Brian sent Freddie home yesterday, i knew something would happen.." You whispered. "And those sons of bitches made such smart ass-y questions about Freddie." You said through gritted teeth.
The atmosphere changed slowly and you started to talk about all the good times with Freddie.
"Remember when Freddie thought those cupcakes were for free so he just took one, got caught and ran away with a cupcake in his hand." Mary giggled. "And it got into his hair while he was running." You added, Roger laughed. "He didn't even like cupcakes." Mary added again. "I'll be heading home.. probably going over to his parent's house for a few hours." She sighed, getting out of the car and closing the door.
Roger picked up Ben early from school and drove home.
"How are we going to tell Ben?" Roger asked, laying in bed next to you. "Oh god." You whispered, hiding your face in yours hands for a second. "We'll tell him at the funeral.. we'll make something up.." You sighed, placing your head on Roger's chest. "When he's old enough.. he won't be able to handle it at his age. He's too attached to Freddie." You said, getting sad as you just thought about it.
I cried.. I cried, man.
