Our happiness didn't last long because soon after Baki burst into the house.

First time I've seen him since I got back.

"Oh. It's you," he started what he said with that.

Wow, don't get so excited to see me, mate.

"Nice to see you as well," I replied, rolling my eyes unamused.

"What's the matter, Baki?" Gaara asked.

"The Sannin Jiraiya the frog sage has been killed by the Akatsuki," he reported.

The second death that shattered my heart into pieces and left me in an incredibly emotional state for the rest of the episode and a few after as Naruto found out more...

I took a deep breath for a moment and sighed.

"Naruto's mentor and..." I frowned before standing up, startling everyone. I turned to Gaara and bowed to him.

"Gaara, as a member of the sand village and a friend of Naruto's. Please allow me to go to the leaf village for a week or two," I asked him, I could feel everyone looking at me with mild surprise and confusion, I stood back up straight and noticed Baki with an irritated expression, Kankuro and Temari wearing an unsure one and Gaara with a serious one, "I've memorised the way there and back and..."

And I know what happens next and it isn't good!

"Do you think you'll be able to defend yourself on the road?" Gaara asked, I nodded.

"I had Julie train me on reflexes and reaction time when I went home last, so I'm prepared for everything!" I said confidently, Baki just looked at me confused, "oh yeah, you don't know. Guys can you explain it to him but Baki, you have to keep it quiet, or I could become a target and we all know what happens when someone is targeted in Sunagakure."

He huffed and looked away.

"Ok, y/n, you will leave today then," Gaara decided clearly reluctantly before muttering, "the sooner you go, the sooner you come back..."

I smiled at his choice of reason and then turned and left the room to prep myself.

Temari's PoV

"You sure you want to send her alone?" I asked Gaara, he nodded, "it's notoriously gone wrong every time she's done or gone somewhere alone."

"I trust her. I know she'll be fine this time and that she'll come back," Gaara replied before standing up and exhaling, "I feel bad for Naruto. Jiraiya was his sensei for a long time."

"Yes, they trained for three years straight didn't they?" Kankuro asked, I nodded.

"Shikamaru and the others were always anticipating Naruto's return when I was there for the chunin exam preparation," I replied, remembering the numerous conversations I managed to get myself caught in about Naruto. They always ended with 'he'll be coming home soon, won't he?' and stuff like that.

"Shikamaru, huh?" Kankuro asked, wriggling his eyebrows in my direction suggestively.

"Oh shut up, you! We were working on the chunin exams together!" I shouted, grabbing a kunai, and throwing it at him just as y/n came down, Kankuro wasn't going to be fast enough to catch it after getting his own kunai out, so we all were watching it and let out a breath of relief when y/n's kunai hit it and pinned it to the wall through the ring.

"Phew—that was close," she said to no one in particular as she grabbed the two kunai, chucked one to me and put the other into her weapons pouch. I had to do a double take on her appearance because for the first time ever, y/n looked like a real ninja. It was actually scary.

"Well I'll be off, try not to kill each other," y/n called, she walked out the door and disappeared. Kankuro and I looked at Gaara.

"What?" he asked dumbly.

"You're not going to see each other for a while...?" Kankuro suggested, the thought clicked in his head, and he quickly got up before leaving the house and walking out after her. I coughed out a laugh at my brother and then found myself looking at another incredibly annoyed one.

"You could've killed me!" Kankuro exclaimed.

"You should've been faster," I just shrugged, I knew I could've hurt him there. Y/n saved my other little brother this time. Gaara found a great girl to love. She can cook, she also knows when to put her foot down for situations, she's determined, she'll protect Gaara no matter what, and he would with her, and she really likes me and Kankuro. We like her too. It's all just a win-win situation.

One day, I think I'm going to have the greatest sister-in-law a person could have.

Your PoV

I was about halfway to the wall when I found myself being tackled into an alley way again.

"Gaara? What the hell?" I asked as he pinned me between him and the wall.

"Sorry, I just—it dawned on me that I wasn't going to see you for a while so I..." he started before trailing off. He hugged me tightly. I was startled for a moment but hugged him back.

"Don't do anything reckless while you're out," he whispers.

"I feel like I should be telling you that," I replied, he moved back and kissed my forehead. I frowned and sighed before grabbing his shirt and pulling him towards me.

"I mean it. No matter what happens don't go doing anything stupid," I told him, he was looking at anywhere but me now, but he nodded before looking at me and then looking away again, "something the mat—?"

I was trying to ask him if something was wrong but as I was shushed when he pushed his lips on mine and kissed me passionately. I was startled for a moment before I kissed him back. For a moment I swear the world just stopped and everything around us just disappeared until we parted for air, and it all came back, and the world started playing again.

He rested his forehead against mine.

"I—I... uh... I love you, y/n, stay safe," he said before disappearing in grains of sand before I could say anything to him.

I smiled a small smile.

"I love you too, Gaara," I muttered to nothing before leaving the alley and going to the gates.

"You going out?" Jiro called from the top of the wall as I finally exited the village.

"Yeah! See you in a week or so!" I called back before pullinga bandana out my bag and wrapping it around my nose and mouth before runningthrough the desert and towards the leaf village again.
