Frankie's P.O.V.
We were watching a movie. Nick had excused himself to go upstairs. He looked a bit upset when he left, but I didn't point it out.I turned back to the movie and got lost in it until I heard this crash.
Everyone started sharing looks wondering what that was.
"Nick." Kevin exclaims out of nowhere and gets up to run up the stairs, Joe follows him upstairs just as quick.
Dad, mom, Pippa and I follow as well, but in a normal pace.
We get up there to see Kevin and Joe talking through the door to get Nick to open up.
We can hear his sobs through the door and it makes everyone's heart ache for the boy inside the bathroom.
What's going on? What is he doing? Is he hurt?
So many questions and possible scenarios are running through my head, that it's giving me a slight headache.
"Come on, Nicky. Open the door. We can help you." But again, no response.
"Where is the spare key?" Mom had made sure we got a spare key. When we were little and clumsy (aren't we still?), mom had made sure we had a spare key. She made that happen after Kevin took a fall and hit his head. They couldn't get ahold of him and broke down the door to help him.
Mom ran to her room to get the spare key. Nick's sobs are the worst, they sound so painful. Nicky, please. Let us help you. We love you.
Mom returned with the spare key and handed it to Kevin who wasted no time in opening the door. Dad pulled a crying Pippa into his chest to keep her from seeing the horrible sight that is called the bathroom.
Kevin runs over to a hysterical Nick and cradles him in his lap and starts rocking him back and forth. He starts talking to Nick, who is too upset to respond to anything.
Mom stood frozen and in shock. Dad was trying to calm Pippa down, cupping her face with his hands and giving her kisses on the forehead.
Joe sprang into action and gets a washcloth, wetting it and kneeling next to Kevin and Nick.
He started cleaning his arms, cuts getting visible. He hurt himself on purpose. Mom cries harder, setting off Pippa into uncontrollable sobs, much like the ones coming from Nick.
Kevin and Joe keep themselves as steady and calm as they can be. Joe cleaned up all the blood from Nick's arms and knuckles and inspects the damage. Nothing too serious so it seems.
My eyes wonder away from the three and look around the bathroom, eyeing all the glass and mess.
My eyes wonder over something by the wall of the bathroom. It looks familiar. He didn't...?
"Joe." I try to speak through my initial shock. Joe turns to me and I try to explain to him that I see Nick's Omnipod on the floor, but I couldn't get the words out. No one else had seen the device yet.
I pointed towards it, in the hope Joe would look.
He gets up and inspects the object. He drops it to the floor and sort of runs back to the two boys on the floor and lifts Nick's shirt to expose his back.
Everyone gasps when seeing the sight. What did you do to yourself, Nicky?
Nick's sobs increase.
Joe grabs the wet washcloth and cleans it under the water quickly before going back again to clean Nick's back.
I see Kevin grab him tighter when Joe startled him putting the washcloth on his back. Nick jerks forward when the washcloth comes in contact with his back.
It hurts him. They're hurting him. I know they're not doing it on purpose, no, they are doing this to help him.
Joe tells Nick gently that he has got to clean the sight so that it doesn't get infected.
The distress Nick is in horrible to see. He's always so calm and organized. This Nick is upset and all over the place. Clinging to Kevin as Joe is hurting him, trying to clean him up.
Dad pulls mom and Pippa away, knowing we will handle the situation as he takes them down to calm them and get them some tea to reorganize their thoughts and to let the situation sink in. Nick is going to need help; he can't go on like this. I might only be twelve, but I know what happens when someone cuts their own wrist on purpose.
I stay put in the doorway, ready to spring into action if they need me to do something for them.
Joe finally got him cleaned up. But Nick is still in the same amount of distress.
Kevin let go of Nick to get him up and out of the bathroom, but Nick won't let him.
"Don't go." Nick starts repeating through his cries. His voice hoarse from crying.
"I'm not leaving you, Nick. Let's get out of this mess." Kevin tells him.
Nick nods. They try to get up together, but seeing Kevin's muscles, he's pulling Nick up with him. Joe helps him.
We are all thinking the same thing. We should test him. We all know it will send Nick over the edge, but we have to know.
We'd taken Nick to Joe's room. Kevin next to him with his arms around him again.
Joe took it upon himself to test Nick without a question. Nick hid his hands between him and Kevin. Kevin had to use a lot of strength to get his hands out. Nick screaming multiple no's, fighting Kevin and Joe as they try to test him.
Finally they were able to test him successfully. Of course he's low. Joe sadly grabs a candy bar from his nightstand and gives it to Nick who refuses to take it.
Kevin takes the bar and starts feeding Nick, Nick only agreed, because I can see in his eyes that he doesn't want to hurt us more then he already did.
Joe and I decide to let Kevin help Nick while we clean up the bathroom.
The both of us stand in the doorway, letting the sight enter our eyes. There is so much blood everywhere, so many shards of the broken mirror. A mess of one of Nick's kits and broken Omnipod. Joe and I share a look before we enter the bathroom to clean it all up together.
