Chapter 41

We're all headed back to the bus after our day of practice. My sister is walking with Mal to Dawn and I have a squirrel on my back.

"Not getting off anytime soon?" I ask Kelly over my shoulder.

"I literally just got on you though" Kelly states. She's actually been on my back for the last 5 mins.

"Whoo!" I hear someone say before there's added weight on my back.

"Alright guys hop off my girlfriend" I hear Alex say as she comes up beside me. Whoever hopped on Kel and I got off and then kells got off too. It was Sonnett, of course it was.

"You guys bug me" I tell Sonnett and Kelly. Who are goofing off on their own. I chuckle at their goofiness. Alex grabs my hand, and we interlaces our fingers as we walk to the bus.

"Mykayla still getting checked by Dawn?"  Alex asks me as we sit next to each other. My sister took a ball to the face by Alex. She was bleeding from her nose.

"Yeah but I'm sure she's fine baby" I tell her reassuring her. She gives me a small smile.

"Your sister did awesome today. I couldn't even score. The future #1 goalie in the world huh?" Alex says boasting about my sister.

"That's where she's headed" I tell Alex smiling. Everyones coming on to the bus. Mykayla comes on and she's laughing with Mal behind her.

"See babe, she's fine" I tell Alex. She looks at my sister. She looks at Alex and gives her a nod. Letting her know that she's okay. Alex takes out her phone. She's watching a video of Germany's recent highlights. We play against Germany for our 1st match of the SheBelieves cup. I've only played friendlies, this will be my first match of this tournament.

"They're holding down defensively,  but look at this... they leave this space open." I tell her as I point at the screen. The whole bus ride, we analyze and breakdown Germany. Where to attack. Once we're at the hotel, Mykayla and I go to our room and change. We're going out with Alex, Carli, Ash, Tobin and Kelly.

"So going to explore the city?" Mykayla asks me. I nod to her response. Carli walks into the room

"Jill want's to talk to you and Mykayla" she tells me, she walks to her suitcase. I put my stuff down and head to the door

"Let's go M-kay" I tell my sister. She walks to me and we head to the conference room. I walk in and I see Jill looking focused on the sheet in her hand. We walk over to her. She looks up and smiles

"Have a seat" she tells us. We pull the chairs out and sit.

"I want to sign her" Jill tells me seriously not breaking eye contact as she holds papers in her hand.

"Do you think she's ready?" I ask Jill. She nods, hands me a stack of papers. As a guardian, I can sign this. I look at my sister. Does she want this? Does she want this before college? I mean she's only 16 right now.

"Can you give us a minute to talk?" I ask Jill nicely. She nods and gets up, and walks out the room. I look at the sheet in front of me. Not taking my eyes off of it.

"Do you want to play?" I ask my sister. She hasn't said a thing. She's probably speechless.

"I don't know.. am I ready? I mean I don't think I'm that good. What if I play horrible?" She starts to ramble. I put my hand on her shoulder.

"M- Kay, chill. You are good enough. If you weren't, you wouldn't be getting this opportunity. You've got these women right behind you. We'll always support you. This is going to determine your future." I tell my sister, she starts to calm down. She's not as tense as she was earlier. She looks deep in thought also looking at the sheets in front of me that determine who she is for this country. She grabs the pen.
