Ch//12 It's Time To Get My Mind Off Things

"You look dashing lil sis"

I smiled and looked down at my summer dress. "Thanks"

"Can we go now Mads?" I asked, picking up my sandals that Maddie last wore yesterday.

"Of course! Let's go"

"So, you come here to get your mind off things?" Maddie nodded her head, putting on one skate. "Yep. Roller skating is the best!" Maddie stood up after tying the last skate.

"Especially better with friends" Maddie motioned towards the entrance.

Brynn, Hayden, Kalani, and some random boy with dark hair, whom I did not recognize; came waltzing in.

At first, I didn't say anything to Brynn. But then I remembered, she's my best friend; and I have to at least try.

She wouldn't be here if she didn't want to still be my friend. Right?

"Hey Kenz" Hayden said smiling.

His perfect white teeth smiled brightly. My stomach swarmed up with butterflies. I still have no idea why, because there is no way..I like Hayden.

"Hi Hayden" I smiled back and went over to Brynn and hugged her.

I whispered in her ear, considering the fact that no one knew we fought. Didn't want to bring down the mood.

"I'm sorry. Truly. You were right about everything" I pulled back and smiled. "Forgive me?"

"Always babes"

"Great! Let's skate" before we headed off, Kalani stood in front of us.

"Before you go, I wanted to introduce you to my brother Isaak" my eyes widened. Since when does she have a brother?!

Maddie pointed to me. Probably because Brynn and Hayden met him before I did. "This is Mackenzie, call her Kenz. She hates that" she smirked.

He came over to me and held his hand out. "Nice to meet you, Kenz" I took his hand and shook it. "You too"

Brynn pulled me away into the skating rink, almost making me fall. "Oooh. I sense a new romance starting" I looked at Brynn frantically.

"Oh no no no no no, that's not gonna happen" she tugged on my arm, almost making me fall. Again. "Oh come on Kenzie! Take a break from the elusive Johnny Orlando, and his best friend that is madly in love with you. Try something new for once, it could be good for you"

I skated faster, trying to avoid this conversation. "Kenzie!"

"Of course you would think that Brynn, you still haven't made up with Carson"

"Wow. Low blow Kenz, low blow" I grinned and continued skating.

The rest of the day was amazing. Bumped into Isaak a couple of times. He seems really nice. Hayden, also. But he was a little weird when he kept trying to skate holding hands.

"Phew. That, was fun" Maddie said as I got into the car. "Yeah. Kinda wish it wasn't ending"

Maddie turned her head to me after putting on her seat belt. "Then it doesn't. Kalani and I could drop you high driven kids off somewhere, you guys could have a good time"

"Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad"

"Great! I'll text Kalani and tell her to drop them off at Pop's. You're probably hungry right"

"Definitely" I said holding my stomach. "Okay. And then after that you guys can go back to the house and watch movies or something"

"What? You're not gonna be with us?" Maddie started the car after texting Kalani and getting the 'okay' "Nope. I'm heading to a frat party. Cliche right? Kalani told me about it. Some guy in our grade is throwing it. Guess he comes down to LA for the summer too"

I laughed. "What grade are you in anyways?"

Maddie looked hurt, jokingly. She started to pull of from the driveway. "Wow, my own sister doesn't know what grade I'm in. It's my second year of college"

"Wow. Sophomore Maddie. Way to go" we both laughed as she continued driving.

This getting my mind off things is really working. That was...until my thoughts drifted over to Johnny. The way I broke his heart, twice. He's got to hate me now.

I accused him of my mother's death. But the bigger secret, he can never find out. He'll definitely hate me even more.

He can never know...he's the reason for my pain.
