(Anabell’s POV)
Being completely in silence, bored out of your mind, was extremely...well...boring. Even Levi had already fallen asleep, his turquoise eyes closed, his...surprisingly long lashes casting shadows onto his tanned cheeks. His full lips were even parted, making him snore quietly as he slept. I couldn’t even go talk to Sky, since he was also in the void of sleep. It was just me, sitting here alone, staring at magazines I had already read like a thousand times. Sure, I could have gone to bed to take a nap, but I was far from tired, especially with everything that had happened in such a short time.
Dad getting into a car accident...and Sky being attacked by some crazy bitch he probably didn’t even know. And even now with the revelation that Sky had an older brother, one who looked nothing like him. Sure, he could be a half brother, with a different mom, or a different dad...but they were so different it was hard to link them as siblings.
Maybe I just didn’t like the fact that he had a family to go back too, and maybe that was cruel of me. No. Not maybe. It was cruel of me to wish such things. But, if he had a family...that meant he had a home to go to. He wouldn’t stay here with Dad and me anymore. I didn’t want that to happen. I was too infatuated with Sky to just let him go like that.
Gosh, Fate was a cruel mistress.
Suddenly feeling hungry, I got up and made my way into the kitchen, opening the fridge to take out a soda. I closed the door with my hip as I opened my drink, the sound of a pop echoing through the room before I took a sip of the delicious drink. I glanced at the clock, my eyes widening as I realised that three hours passed since we came home. I didn’t think it had been that long, in all honesty.
I shrugged, walking back into the living room, pausing when I was met with the sight of Levi sitting up, looking up at the ceiling with a frown. I didn’t know if I was seeing this correctly...but it looked like his eyes were glowing, albeit faintly. Probably just the way the light’s hitting them, I mused, clearing my throat and making him jump before he looked at me, his eyes no longer looking like they were glowing.
“What’re you staring at?” I asked, gesturing to the ceiling.
Levi frowned, those turquoise eyes of his shifting back up. “I’m not sure,” he muttered, slowly standing up. “I could have sworn I just heard something.” His eyes then widened before he bolted up the stairs, making my heart drop with fear as I followed him, unsure to what was going on. Just as we got to Sky’s door, we heard a crash, my eyes widening as Levi and I exchanged eye contact.
Levi tried opening the door, cursing when he realised the door was locked. “Sky? Sky, are you alright?!” He sighed heavily before shooing me away, taking a step back before he kicked the door in, the wood splintering as it was forced open. We rushed in and I screamed at the sight of blood all over the floor, the window completely gone, only leaving jagged, sharp pieces littered across the carpet. A single glance at Sky’s bed confirmed that he was gone, making a painful ache form in my bones.
“Sky!” I screamed, rushing over to the window. However, I didn’t see Sky’s body limp on the ground, instead, I found him weakly fighting someone with short white hair. Levi saw as well and cursed fouly before he pushed me back, grabbing at my face. “Get out of here. I’ll take care of that bastard and get Sky.”
“I’m not leaving!” I found myself saying, harshly smacking the man’s hands off of my face. “Sky’s a part of my family, blood or not, and I’ll be damned if anyone hurts him!”
Levi stared at me before he reluctantly nodded, rushing out of the house to get to Sky and the stranger. I rushed after him, running outside when I was tackled to the ground by a sudden force, making me cry out as my body smacked against the hard ground. When the dizziness wore off, I glanced to see my attacker, glaring at the woman who stood before me, a smirk on her unusually perfect features. Her hair fell in inky waves down her back, her eyes...her eyes red like blood. How the hell was that possible?! Could it be contacts? No, they looked too natural to be contacts.
Then how the hell were her eyes so vibrantly red?
“You’re cute, for an innocent little human.” The woman snorted, crossing her arms over her chest. “Too bad you won’t live to see another day.”
I glanced to were Levi was fighting the stranger, the blonde man doing surprisingly well as he kicked the white hair man in the face, making him stumble back. I searched for Sky, until the woman in front of me grabbed my chin and made me look at her.
“Sorry sweetie, you’re precious little angel is on his last leg, I’m afraid. He’s not going to last any longer with those injuries.”
I glared at her and kicked her right where her lady parts were, making her gasp and fall back, her face scrunched up in pain. Hey, women could be kicked there too. It wasn’t just men that felt the pain of being kicked in such an intimate place. I had been kicked there in multiple occasions, so I could say that it was no fun at all.
Kicking myself out of my thoughts, I jumped up on my two feet and ran towards where I had last seen Levi, both him and the stranger now gone as I searched for Sky. My heart dropped as I caught sight of him, laying on the ground, unmoving. The world around me felt like it stopped as I ran over to him, his eyes closed and his breath shallow. I swallowed the fear that crept up on me when I saw how much blood coated him, and I gently placed a hand on his cheek.
“Sky?” I whispered, unable to do more than whisper, thanks to the shock.
He opened his eyes tiredly, those baby blues bloodshot as they focused on me. “A-Anabell?” He asked before he coughed, coughing up more blood.
I felt tears forming in my eyes as I brushed his bangs out of his face. “Sky, it’s going to be ok, I promise you. I’m going to take you back to the hospital and they’re going to fix you all up, ok?”
Sky opened his mouth to answer, before his eyes went wide, staring at whoever it was behind me. I turned and yelped as the bitch from earlier grabbed my hair, throwing me across the yard, making me smack into a bush. I winced at the cuts that formed from the throw, slowly sitting up as I threw the most hate filled glare I could manage, at the woman.
The woman only smiled at me before she bent down near Sky, making me rush to stand up. “You leave him alone, you stupid bitch!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, rushing towards her, tackling her down to the ground before I punched her in the face, making her growl and kick me off of her.
I hit the ground with a thud, ignoring my pain as I stood up to attack the woman, managing a couple of hits to her face before she got me in my gut, making me wheeze as the air was forced out of me. She then grabbed my hair, pulling the brown strands until my eyes met hers. Here eyes were dark, indicating the hate she felt towards me. Not that I cared. She was going to hurt Sky, and I wasn’t going to let her tainted fingers touch him.
“You’re quite feisty for a human,” she mused, tilting her head to the side, “however, you pissed me off. Now you pay with your life.”
She pulled a blade out of nowhere, ready to ram it into me before her eyes went wide, a glob of blood falling from between her crimson painted lips as she looked down, gently touching the sharp jagged end of wood that stuck out of her. Her grip on me lessened, making me fall to the ground, my eyes widening as I caught sight of Sky behind her, his form wobbling as he let go of the shovel. He glanced at me before he dropped down, making me rush over to him, ignoring the way the woman fell to the grass, dead.
“Sky? Sky stay awake. Please. Come on.” I pulled his arm over my shoulder, grunting as I helped him stand up, his breath wheezing as he struggled to take in air. I struggled as best I could, basically dragging him to Levi’s car so I could get him to the hospital. I had to save him, because I’ll be damned if I lose him now.
“Hold on, Sky. We’re almost there.” I spoke, Sky managing only a shaky nod as I caught sight of Levi’s car. I quickened my pace, my heart racing in my chest as we neared the black vehicle. Almost there, I told myself.
Suddenly, Sky was snatched out of my arms, making me gasp and whirl around, only to freeze, my heart feeling like it was being shredded at what I saw.
A red-haired man held Sky by the back of his neck, Sky’s eyes wide as blood dribbled out of his open lips. I felt like my entire being was being thrown into a woodchipper, my heart unmoving in my chest as the man let go of Sky. Sky fell to the ground, unmoving. I felt completely frozen as I caught sight of a knife in the man’s hand, drenched in Sky’s blood. In his other hand, he held the weird cuff thing that Sky wore to keep his hair back, only it was drenched in crimson this time. He looked at me, his expression unreadable, before he began walking off, letting me fall to my knees and pull Sky’s form towards me.
He was barely breathing, his eyes half open as he stared at me with a dazed expression. I felt the tears streaming down my face as I gently brushed Sky’s bangs out of his face with a shaky hand. “Sky?” I whispered, watching as a sad smile formed on his lips.
“I...I feel so heavy,” he spoke, his voice shaking.
“No, no, no, no. Sky, no. Don’t do this to me.” I cried, my tears falling onto his face. He stared at me silently before he slowly cupped my cheek, making my breath catch in my throat as he pulled me down and placed his lips against mine, his eyes closing as he kissed me.
I felt myself cry even more, knowing he was kissing me because he truly believed he was about to die. It was like my entire world was just crashing, all in one day. I didn’t want to lose him. I cared for him too much. I loved the way he blushed whenever someone spoke to him, the way he bit his plush bottom lip whenever he was deep in thought. Or the way he sneezed like a small kitten...I even enjoyed the way he laughed, the sounds lyrical and full of happiness.
And all of that was going to disappear. All because of a group of assholes who wanted to tear a family apart.
When he finally pulled away, his eyes were shining with unshed tears, his voice shaky as he spoke. “Anabell? I…” He coughed heavily, his eyes watering until he managed to stop. “Anabell, I love you.”
I began crying harder, barely noticing the lone tear trailing down Sky’s cheek as he smiled sadly at me, his breath slowing as his body began to feel lighter. “I love you too, Sky. More than anything. Please, please don’t do this to me. Please don’t leave me.”
“I...I’m so sorry…”
And with that, Sky went limp, making me scream in agony as I held his lifeless form to me, not wanting to let him go.
