Chapter Twelve

Chanyeol's POV

I paced back and forth as I hadn't heard anything on Kai's condition. It wasn't the only time I had been waiting like this. Ever since my family took him into protection he'd been hurt by those people on more than one occasion. Even with our people protecting him, it still isn't enough. I was supposed to protect him today, but I had somewhere to be.

"Excuse me do you know any information on my brother Kai? He was hit by a car a bit ago". I asked as the nurse as she looked at her chart. "Right now he's in surgery. Someone will inform you when he's in recovery". The nurse said as she took off. At least I had something to tell mom and dad. They were in the states looking for more guards since all of us were potential targets.

"Hey, how's Kai doing? Any news yet?" Chen asked sitting beside me on the bench. "The nurse said he's still in surgery. But still no news on his condition. Did you take Kyung Mi home?" I asked glancing at Chen who looked uneasy. Chen nodded fiddling with his bracelet. "Yeah, I got her home safely without problems. It worries me at how worried she is for Kai. Normally when someone who is in contact with Kai get hurt. If Kyung Mi finds out the truth it can hurt both her and Kai. And Kyung Mi is a kind girl. I'd hate to see her get hurt". Chen spoke quietly as he looked at the floor. "Then I guess we'll protect her to. She's part of the family now rather she wants to be or not". I stated.

Kyung Mi was the next victim and so the nine of us were gonna have to protect her since she's family now.

Kai's POV

When I came to all I could hear was the annoying beeping sound of the heart monitor. Guess it means I'm alive. I looked over to my right to see that Chanyeol was leaning against the wall on his phone. "Is Kyung Mi alright?" I asked my voice hoarse sounding. I worried that she got seriously hurt when I shoved her. I didn't want her to get crushed. She had so much to live for, and me I didn't. Chanyeol looks up at me putting his phone away. "She just has minor injuries, but should be fine. I sent Chen to take her home, so Kyung Mi is under his protection. How are you feeling?" I nodded regretting it instantly. "I'd be better if my head didn't hurt. You do know what this means now right?" I asked looking at him. Chanyeol nodded a look in his eyes.

"I have to stay away from Kyung Mi. I can't put her in harms way or lose another person Chanyeol. I can't take it. That means I'm leaving her in your protection. I'll go on like I don't know her. I'm leaving her in your protection from now on". The more I said those words the more my heart felt torn. I didn't want to pretend I didn't know her,  up if it was to protect her from me then I have to do it.

"Kai, you can still talk with her. It doesn't mean the end". Chanyeol said as he sat down across from me. I sighed running a hand through my hair. "It's the only way Chanyeol. I can't let her get mixed into my world. It can break her. And to see her broken. . . will break me too. Because I would be the cause of it all". I said as my heart broke a little.

Kyung Mi's POV

I paced back and forth as I held the phone in my hand. Chen has yet to call me to tell me on Kai's condition. It worried me that something worse might have happened to him. Yet I couldn't see him, because I had to stay away. But how can I when my heart hurt because he was injured.

"Would you stop pacing you're gonna cause a draft". Jae asked as he walked into my room. He leaned against the doorframe shaking his head. "Sorry I'm waiting on an important phone call". I apologized as I continued to pace. "Where's dad at?" I asked as I haven't seen him since this morning. Jae shrugged before sitting on a bean bag chair. "He said he had some business to take care of. He didn't say when he would be home". I nodded before looking at my phone to see it was Chen.

"Hello?" I asked instantly. In the background I could hear male voices. "Hey, Kyung Mi how's the hand?" Chen asked loudly over the voices. "My hand is fine thanks for asking. Any word on how Kai is?" I asked as my heart began to beat faster. "He just got out of surgery and he's alert and awake. They said he has a concussion and broken ribs. He should recover soon if he heals fast". Chen said. I sighed in relief. Good he's gonna be okay. "Thanks for informing me Chen". "You're welcome. Goodnight Kyung Mi". Chen said before hanging up.
