Kyung Mi's POV

"This night has been amazing Kai. Probably one that has been full of good things which is what I needed. And I thank you for that. Lately things at home have been tense. So I thank you for the good time". I thanked him as we sat on the blanket watching the fireworks. In the darkness I seen Kai visibly tense which worried me. He looked at me before slowly relaxing. "I'm glad that I can be of help. And you're welcome this night has been fun and quite enjoyable. To be honest this is the happiest I been in years. For once there is no drama or people coming after me. And being with you has been such a joy in my life. I look forward to spending more time together". Kai took my hands in his letting those words sink in.

I felt worried for Kai's safety and whoever was after him had made him fear for his life. But I knew this wasn't the time to ask. But I needed to know in order to protect him. "Kai, who is chasing you?" I asked gently trying to not set him off. Kai sucked in a sharp breath before looking out at the ocean.

"Kyung Mi I swore to myself that I couldn't get you involved into my world, but I failed at that. But I promise to shield you from harms way. Everyone who gets close to me gets hurt, but I promise I won't let it happen to you. I treasure your safety Kyung Mi".

I was about to speak when Kai's phone cut me off. "Excuse me for a minute". Kai said walking a ways leaving me.

"Hello?" I heard Kai say as he walked further away.

"We need to leave now. Chen found some suspicious activity and went to investigate along with Lay. I'll meet you down there in a few minutes. Be ready to leave". Chanyeol said before hanging up. I heard Kai hang up before making his way towards me.

The worried expression didn't go unnoticed by me which worried me that something was about to go wrong. Fear was written in Kai's eyes which I could tell he was trying to cover it up to not worry me. "Everything okay?" I asked trying to hide my fear. Kai started gathering all the items blowing out the candles. "We need to go right now. I'll take you home". Kai spoke being vague as he grabbed what he could. I nodded grabbing the items helping him pack the dinner.

"Is someone here now?" I asked looking around seeing Kai's friends running down the beach. Kai was silent as he looked at his friends. "Yes, someone is here. We need to keep moving". Kai spoke hurriedly panic lacing his voice. "Don't worry I'll keep you safe. I'm sorry I got you into this". Kai apologized. I nodded looking around. "It's okay we're in this together". I reassured him.

"I'll take both of you home. Chen and Lay got it covered, but I'll come back and get them". Chanyeol helped guide us towards his car looking around. "Keep a look out for them and make sure Lay and Chen are protected". Chanyeol demanded.

The ride home was silent which worried me of Kai's state. His glare was hard set outside the window his breathing shallow. "You okay Kai?" I asked worriedly taking his hand. He looked over at me a wild look to his eyes. Slowly he shook his head causing my heart to race. "Chanyeol s-stop the car". Kai panted his hand on the handle. Suddenly the car came to a stop pushing me forward. I watched as Kai bolted out of the car. "Kyung Mi stay in the car. I'm going to check on Kai". Chanyeol said as he hopped out of the car.

. . .

Kai's POV

I bolted out of the car angry at myself. This can't be happening not now. Not on the first date. I grabbed at my chest supporting my balance on the vehicle. My lungs ached as my breathing was ragged, my vision blurry. My stomach was in knots not being able to get air in or out.

"Hey, it's okay you been through this before you got this. He's not anywhere near you. You're safe. Take deep breaths". Chanyeol spoke as my hearing was fading in and out. "I can't. Where's m-my inhaler?" I wheezed losing my grip on reality. Chanyeol rushed towards the glove compartment grabbing the green inhaler. Once I could feel the plastic device in my hand I automatically brought it to my mouth.

Once I used it I could feel a little bit of relief. But the ache was still evident. "Now that you're better let's get Kyung Mi home". I nodded sliding into the car.

"I didn't know you had asthma". Kyung Mi spoke taking me out of the tiredness I was feeling. "I don't I get panic attacks". I admitted. A sympathetic smile crossed her beautiful face as she looked at me. "I used to get them too after my mom died. But now I rarely have them, but occasionally one will hit out of the blue. You're okay now right?" She asked worriedly. At the mention of her mom my heart broke for her guilt setting in. I nodded. "Yeah, I will be. I'm sorry about your mom Kyung Mi". My voice came out weak as exhaustion hit. I still hadn't recovered from the stab wound yet.

"It's okay I don't exactly wear my mom died T-shirt anymore. I've come to terms that she won't be coming back and that she's no longer in the physical world. But that she still lives in my heart and her legendary photography". Kyung Mi said with sadness laced in her voice.

The sadness that was caused because of me hurt me that I hurt her mentally.

"You don't have to walk me in. You need to save your strength. I know you haven't yet recovered. Thanks for a fun night Kai". I was about to refuse but she stopped me. "Save your strength Kai you're exhausted. Goodnight Kai". "Goodnight Kyung Mi". I watched as she walked into her friends house relief washing over me knowing she is safe.

. . .

Chanyeol's POV

"I told the guys that I would meet them back at the beach to make sure their okay. Is that alright with you Kai?" I asked as we drove down the deserted highway. "Kai?" I looked behind in the backseat to find Kai asleep. "Of course you're asleep". I whispered pulling into the parking lot which everyone was gathered down below.

Quietly I got out of the car running towards my friends who were surrounded by someone. Something didn't feel right. Panicked voices could be heard as I got closer. "What happened?" I asked the loud voices. D.O looked at me shaking his head. "Chen got beat up along with Lay, but Chen couldn't defend himself resulting in him being knocked out. Apparently from what Lay said a guy was secretly taking photos of Kai and Kyung Mi. Lay took the camera for evidence. It was Mr. So's doing". D.O spoke pointing towards the camera.

"I'm fine it's just a bump on the head. I been through worse brawls". Chen said holding his head. "You'll need to be checked for a concussion. I'll make sure that my parents see the footage to amp up the security. All of us combined aren't enough". I reasoned as Lay handed the camera over.

As I made my way into the car Kai was still asleep. Relief hit me as it was nice to see him sleeping. I can't remember the last time I saw him sleep and stay asleep without being plagued with nightmares. No person should have to go through with what he has. It's a miracle he's still alive. From the moment he stepped into our house I knew it was my job to protect him. And as his brother I would do just that.

"Come on Kai let's get you to bed". I shook him, but all I got in response was a groan. "I'm tired to Kai". I said as I shook him but got no response. Realizing he was going to stay asleep I picked him up carrying him into the house.

"You're awful big to be carried this way you know it". I said looking behind me to see his sleeping figure.
