Chapter Thirty Three

Kai's POV

In the darkness I could hear screams awakening me in the night. I looked around in the darkness not seeing Chanyeol. "Chanyeol?" I hurriedly got up searching of where the screams came from. "Chanyeol where are you?" I worried as I got no answer. I ran outside where more muffled screams could be heard. "Chanyeol!" I shouted as I seen someone holding him down. It was none other than Mr. So. "Kai don't come near. I'll be fine. Go escape save yourself". Chanyeol shouted before being cut off. "Did you come here to save your brother?" He asked grabbing Chanyeol by his collar. Chanyeol struggled under his weight. "Let him go it's me you want. Don't harm him. Take me instead". I pleaded glancing between Chanyeol and Mr. So. Mr. So smirked looking down at Chanyeol. "Not so fast Kai. Maybe he should go through with what our families went through". My heart suddenly went still fear written in Chanyeol's eyes. "Let him go and just take me. Kill me not him". I pleaded tears in my eyes. "It's okay Kai. It was my job to protect you". Chanyeol said as he looked at Mr. So's gun. "No, Chanyeol!" I yelled lunging for the gun.

"Kai, wake up you're having a nightmare. You're scaring me". I felt something shaking me, fear riddling me. What if he has come for me to end my existence? I let out a scream opening my eyes. The light in the room blinded me as I observed my surroundings. Chanyeol was crouching in front of me holding my arms a worried expression written on his face.

"Hey, it's okay it was just a nightmare". Chanyeol reassured me, but didn't work as my heart beat faster. I shook my head fighting back the tears. "No, it's not okay. It felt so real. I thought. . . I-I thought I lost you Chanyeol. You're all the family I have left. And if I lose you to him, then I might as well be dead". I wheezed as tears burned my eyes. I felt Chanyeol wrap his arm around me trying to comfort me. "Don't worry you won't lose me. At least not that easily. I won't let him near you not now not ever". Chanyeol whispered.

No matter what Chanyeol said I couldn't shake the feeling away. I feared for my best friends safety, my families and my own. Every day my days are numbered because of that man. And there is only one way out of it and I didn't want it to come down to that. I wanted to leave my mark on the world before I leave.

"I can't lose you Chanyeol. Please don't leave me. Promise me you won't leave?" I asked hanging on to the last hope I had. He was there in my darkest times, moments I don't want to remember. "I promise you won't lose me. I'll always be protecting you no matter what. You won't lose me that easily. We're brothers and we stick together". A small smile came to me as that was our motto to always stick together.

"To make you sleep better how about I go and make us some tea? Like old times it ought to help". Chanyeol hinted. I nodded agreeing following him down the stairs. "Again I'm sorry I woke you up. Now you won't sleep because of me". I felt guilty that Chanyeol won't get sleep because of me and he has to go to school. "It's fine it's what families do for each other is to make sure their okay. If the situation were reversed you'd do the same".

Chanyeol and I both grabbed the ingredients setting up the tea. Every time I would have nightmares he would make me tea as a remedy to help me sleep, but little does he know it never worked. But it's the memories we shared that count.

"Chanyeol I wanted to tell you that I know I have put you through hell for many years and for that I'm sorry. But I also wanted to say thank you for always saving me. I know I don't always show my gratitude sometimes, so thank you". Chanyeol knew it was hard for me to open up let alone show my emotions, but the nightmare I had made me open my eyes to be more thankful. Things can happen fast without a moments hesitation it can be gone.

A small smile ghosted Chanyeol's face before he turned the kettle off. "I know how hard it is for you to speak openly about your feelings and I understand why. It's nice to know you're thankful even though I know you like an open book. I can tell when you're thankful or displeased about guarding you more. But I assure you that it's for your own good. And you're welcome. Come on let's drink this and go to bed".

Chanyeol handed me the steaming cup of tea both of us carrying it to our shared room. Both of us remained quiet as we sipped on our tea. "Chanyeol thank you". I said as I glanced his way. He looked at me confused setting down his cup. "Thank me for what?" He asked confused. "Thank you for always taking care of me, despite my stubbornness. I know I'm not an easy person". I admitted.

"You're getting all mushy on me now Kai. You're my brother Kai rather or not by blood you're still my brother. It's my job to take care of you. Since mom and dad aren't around I always took you under my wings. It's what brothers do. Goodnight Kai get some sleep". I watched as Chanyeol fell asleep light snores filling the room.

Since I wasn't tired yet I grabbed a blank notebook and started writing in it. The words flowing from my fingertips.

He is disguised as the devil
Turning my world upside down
Today I have experienced hell and back
He, the devil was at it again
Will this ever come to an end
He, the devil can be so powerful
Can anyone save me from the
Darkness that is soon to
Take over my world
Can anyone hear my
Cries of help
For he the devil
Can be ever so powerful.

Soon my eyelids felt too heavy to stay open I could feel myself giving way to the darkness.
