The next day Michelle was grounded for a week so John and Mr. Slater went back to the cinemas and saw "The Addams Family". John was truly happy to be there in the cinema as the previews started.
"I can't believe what happened last night," Mr. Slater said.
He was instantly annoyed that his good mood had been interrupted by his father's annoyance.
"Dad, please don't," John said.
"Please don't what?" Mr. Slater asked.
"Please don't talk about Michelle. Can't we just have a good time?"
"Sure,"
Following his son's advice, Mr. Slater kept his mouth shut for the rest of the previews and then the movie.

With all the yelling her parents and John did the night before Michelle prayed, and hoped, that they all would have lost their voices the next day. Unfortunately, that didn't prove to be the case for her. She was told that she was going to be grounded for a week and she couldn't believe it. But there was one thing Mrs. Slater had on her mind as she sat at the dining room table with Michelle.
"Why did you leave the movie theatre last night?" Mrs. Slater asked.
"I told you," Michelle said. "I just wanted to get some fresh air,"
Mrs. Slater slapped her right hand on the table with frustrated impatience.
"Don't lie to me, Michelle," she said. "I didn't believe it last night and what makes you think I'm going to believe it now?"
"Because it's the truth," Michelle replied.
Mrs. Slater's eyes narrowed with anger and frustration.
"I'm your mother," she said. "What makes you think I can't tell when you're lying to me?"
Michelle didn't have an answer for that because she was in enough trouble and she didn't want to get into more.
"Answer the question," Mrs. Slater said.
"Okay," she said relenting.
"So you want to tell the truth now," Mrs. Slater said. "Good,"
Michelle didn't really want to tell the truth because she didn't have a choice.
"Now, what's the real reason you left the movie theatre last night?" Mrs. Slater asked.
Michelle didn't say anything because she really didn't want to betray Natalie's trust.
"Michelle," Mrs. Slater said warningly.
"Natalie asked me to call her brother," she said. "He actually lives here in Bundaberg,"
Mrs. Slater thought that was incredibly strange.
"Why can't Natalie call him herself?" Mrs. Slater asked.
"Her brother won't talk to Natalie," Michelle said.
"Why not?"
"They're fighting and he won't let Natalie see her nephews,"
"So that's the reason you ran out?" she asked incredulously.
"Yes, because you haven't even let me call Natalie," Michelle said. "What choice did you give me?"
"Michelle, I can understand your good intentions but Natalie had no right to ask you to call her brother. That's a family matter that you're not apart of. Now go and get your wallet,"
