Natalie was the first one to know about the rules of the Caloundra trip as John got to her first as he picked her up on the way to school the next morning. He hoped she would understand but that didn't prove to be the case.

"You've got to be kidding me!" was Natalie's immediate reaction.

"I know," John said. "I can't believe it either. My parents can be such arseholes sometimes!"

"Well, what about you?" she asked judgementally.

He didn't like where this was going.

"What about me?" he asked offended.

"We were all going to go up together as a group. How come you couldn't get your parents to agree to that?"

"I tried to get them to agree to that and they said no. What else can I do?"

She shook her head annoyed.

"God, you can be so pathetic sometimes," Natalie said.

Needless to say, he thought she was being seriously unreasonable.

As Michelle walked up to Daniel on the walking path she was worried about her he was going to react. As she walked up to him he was very curious as to what news she had for him.

"My parents said no to the weekend trip," Michelle said "We can only stay during the day on Saturday,"

"That sucks," Daniel said generally.

Michelle was worried that Daniel was going to blame her for not having better news.

"Yeah," she said trying not to sound worried.

"You know back in Salinger before my sister died we tried to arrange a weekend trip to Chicago with just us and our friends," he said.

"Really?" she asked naturally curious about the outcome.

"Yeah, and my parents said no to that as well,"

She breathed a sigh of relief that he was being so understanding about the situation.

"That sucks," Michelle said.

"Yeah, it did," Daniel replied. "But at least we'll get to have on the day up there and I'm really looking forward to that,"

"Me too, now, do you have a surfboard you can borrow?"

"Yeah, I can borrow it from Mr. Hughes. Now, are you sure you'll be able to teach me to surf?"

"I'll be able to teach you some basics,"

"Basics I can live with,"

As they continued to walk to school Daniel really hoped he'd be able to live up to Michelle's expectations.

The school day went by quickly for Michelle and Daniel and that suited both of them just fine. When they got to his house he got Mr. Hughes' surfboard from the garage and they took it up to his bedroom. Once they were in his bedroom he put the surfboard on the floor. She got on the surfboard and showed him some techniques about balance. Once she got off the surfboard he then got on and copied her movements. She was very impressed.

"Very good," Michelle said. "You should do well out there,"

"I hope so," Daniel said. "I don't want to look stupid out there,"

"You won't look stupid out there once you get the hang of it," she said confidently.

Daniel got off the surfboard and walked closer to Michelle.
