John knew he had to go home soon but there was still something on his mind. What was on his mind was something only Natalie could know about. He knew he was potentially opening a wound for her but he really needed her knowledge.
"What's it like being an aunt?" John asked.
Of all the things Natalie was expecting him to ask it certainly wasn't that but it was obvious why he was asking.
"Being an aunt is the greatest thing that ever happened to me," she said. "Playing with them and seeing them grow is really special,"
"Really?" he asked.
"Oh yeah, definitely and you're going to be a great uncle. I can tell,"
"Thanks,"
"So you've got to make sure Michelle keeps her baby and don't let your parents make Michelle give up the baby for adoption,"
John still thought adoption was the best choice but he was starting to wonder what it would be like to be Uncle John.

When John arrived back home he didn't know what to expect. So when he entered he didn't expect Mr. Slater to be waiting for him with a very serious expression on his face.
"John, something really bad has happened," Mr. Slater said.
"What is it?" he asked curiously.
"Daniel is being sent back to the States early because of Michelle's pregnancy," Mr. Slater replied.
"Really?" he asked seriously surprised.
Due to the animosity that John had been displaying towards his sister Mr. Slater wanted him to be on his best behaviour.
"Yes, and don't give Michelle a hard time about it," Mr. Slater warned. "Michelle has been through enough as it is,"
"I won't give Michelle a hard time," he said whining at his father's assumption of how he would handle the situation.
John did feel bad for Michelle but he was glad that Daniel was being deported. In her bedroom, Mrs. Slater was still trying to console Michelle but she felt completely and utterly broken. Mrs. Slater had her right arm around Michelle as she sat on her bed with her.
"Why isn't he here?" Michelle cried. "Daniel said he would be coming over,"
"I don't know," Mrs. Slater said sensitively. "But just know that you do have us,"
That wasn't good enough for her and she continued to cry. Back in the lounge room, Mr. Slater was still suspicious of John.
"Listen, I know you don't like Daniel but I want you to do something special for Michelle and Daniel before Daniel leaves," Mr. Slater said.
"Why do you want me to do that?" John asked. "Daniel doesn't like me either,"
"I know that but I think it would be nice for Michelle if you did something nice for both of them,"
"Like what?"
"Take them out somewhere. Now go and talk to Michelle because she needs to know that she doesn't just have the support of her parents but her big brother has well,"
John really didn't want to do that but he knew that he had to do what his father had told him to do. So he walked to Michelle's bedroom doorway and knocked on the door.
"Hi, can I come in?" he asked as nicely as he could.
Michelle looked up at him with a teary fury in her eyes.
