The memories continued to a time when John wanted to be involved with Michelle's singing lessons. He had driven Michelle to her singing lesson and he got out of the car with her and she didn't like that one bit.
"John, what are you doing?" she asked.
"Just wait," he said.
"No, don't tell me to just wait. What the hell are you doing?"
John ignored her as he walked to the front door and knocked on it. Michelle was starting to feel very anxious because of it.
"John, what the hell are you doing?" she asked.
Before he could answer Ms. Mathis opened the front door and was caught off guard as she had only expected to see Michelle there and not John.
"Hello, Michelle," Ms. Mathis said to Michelle before she turned her attention to John. "Now who are you?"
"I'm Michelle's brother, John," he replied.
John held out his right hand and Ms. Mathis held out her right hand and shook his quickly.
"Ms. Mathis," she said. "Now what exactly are you doing here?"
"I thought I would stay and watch you give Michelle her singing lesson," he said.
A look of panic came onto the faces of both Michelle and Ms. Mathis.
"What?" Michelle asked scared.
"No, absolutely not!" Ms. Mathis said sharply.
He was a little thrown as he hadn't expected to be spoken to like that.
"Why not?" John asked a little indignant.
"When I teach my students I do it one on one with no exceptions," Ms. Mathis replied.
"But that means I'll have to drive all the way home and all the way back here again," John complained.
"I said no exceptions!" she said to John before she turned her attention to Michelle. "You can come in now, Michelle,"
Michelle walked into the house without saying a word or even looking back at John. Then Ms. Mathis walked into the house and closed the door behind her.
"I'm so sorry," Michelle said once John was gone. "I had no idea John wanted to stick around,"
"We need to be more careful," Ms. Mathis replied. "What if our friend found out?"
Then at that moment, the Stranger materialised in front of them and Michelle and Ms. Mathis were startled because of it.
"I have found out but don't worry," he said. "I'm not angry about it,"
Although Michelle was relieved to hear that Ms. Mathis couldn't help but feel a little annoyed.
"For crying out loud!" Ms. Mathis said. "Could you please stop doing that?"
"Stop doing what?" he asked a little confused.
"Stop appearing in front of us whenever you feel like it. Can't you just knock on the front door like everyone else?"
"Okay, I'll do that in the future but I have something I need to do for both of you today,"
He held out both of his hands. Michelle took his right hand but Ms. Mathis was reluctant to take his left hand.
"What do you need to do?" Ms. Mathis asked.
"I need to prove to both of you that I'm a man of my word and that our order is serious about what we do," he explained.
