The next day John was happy to see that Natalie wasn't running late for school. He slowed the car down and it was obvious to Michelle why. Once he stopped the car she unfastened her seatbelt and opened the car door.
"Would you like a lift?" John asked Natalie as Michelle got out of the car.
"You bet," Natalie replied.
Michelle opened the back door and expected Natalie to get in first. Natalie did get in first but not in the backseat. To Michelle's surprise, Natalie got in the front seat and sat next to John. This wasn't a welcome surprise to her and she got in the backseat. John and Natalie chatted quite actively on their way to school and Michelle hated being ignored.
When they arrived at school they all got out of John's car but Michele made a point of getting the first word in.
Natalie, would you like to have lunch with me today?" she asked quickly.
John knew exactly what she was doing and he didn't appreciate it. Natalie knew that she hadn't put her in the easiest position to say no.
"Yeah, sure," Natalie said with a fixed smile on her face. "That's a great idea,"
John didn't think it was a great idea and hated his sister with her blatant manipulation. Michelle was pleased with herself because of it.

The first lunch break arrived and Michelle was certain that Natalie was going to be there. Only she wasn't. Initially, she thought Natalie was late but after five minutes of waiting it was obvious that she wasn't. So she walked to the area behind the canteen to see Natalie with John and his friends. From a distance, she watched Natalie really laughing at something John had said. But that wasn't the worst part for Michelle. The worst part was that she saw Natalie and John holding hands. She turned around and walked away feeling betrayed by Natalie and John.

The rest of the school day wasn't easy for Michelle but unknown to her it wasn't easy for Natalie either. John and Natalie were waiting next to John's car for Michelle to show up but so far there was no sign of her. Then Natalie saw her heading down the walking path. Michelle had walked across the street up from his car so she wouldn't be noticed at first by John and Natalie.
"John, there's Michelle," Natalie said pointing at her with her right hand.
John turned around and saw her walking away down the walking path.
"I'll get her," John said.
"Okay," Natalie replied.
He walked across the street and onto the walking path. As Michelle was a good distance away he had to walk fast to catch up.
"Michelle," John said.
"Piss off!" Michelle said without turning back to look at him.
"I saw you at lunch,"
That got her attention and she stopped walking but she didn't turn around to face John.
"Natalie and I saw you at lunch," John said.
Michelle wasn't happy about that as she thought she had gotten away without being seen.
"So what if you did?" Michelle asked.
"So Natalie feels bad that you didn't come over," John replied.
"Would you have liked it if I came over?"
"No, of course not. I'm glad you didn't come over,"
Michelle turned around to face John.
"Natalie's making you talk to me, isn't she?" Michelle asked.
