As their parents were getting ready for work Michelle and John could eat their breakfast temporarily in peace because they knew either their mother or father would be coming out to check if they had eaten it and moved on to get their school uniforms on. Michelle and John definitely weren't in the mood for talking to each other and this wasn't an unusual occurrence since they became teenagers. But he definitely had something to say that morning.
"I'm not driving you to school this morning," John said. "After the shit you pulled last night you can walk."
As far as Michelle was concerned getting a lift to and from school was the only good thing about having an older brother because she hated walking to school. But that morning she wanted to keep her distance as far as possible.
"Fine by me," Michelle replied shortly.
He was a little surprised by her reaction because he had expected her to complain.
"Good," he said.

It was twenty minutes later that Michelle was walking to Hinton High School and wearing the school uniform she couldn't stand which was a light orange shirt and a dark purple skirt and had an equally embarrassing shirt to match. After starting high school it didn't take her long to get sick of those colours. As she walked to school she kept an eye out for Julie's car as she didn't want to run into her or her sister. That's what Michelle was thinking about when she heard a voice behind her.
"Hey Michelle," Natalie said. "Wait up."
She turned around to see Natalie walking up to her from one of the side streets where Natalie lived.
"Hey Natalie," Michelle said.
"I thought you would have gotten a lift with your brother," Natalie said.
"Yeah, I thought so too but he's in a bad mood and wanted to go to school alone,"
"Oh, what is he in a bad mood about?"
That wasn't a question Michelle wanted to answer. The day behind had been awkward enough when it came to discovering that her best friend could be gay and throwing in that her brother could be interested in Natalie just made things more awkward.
"I don't know," Michelle lied. "He's just being an arsehole."
Natalie knew that was a lie and needed to know the truth.
"Michelle," she said awkwardly. "Did you tell John what happened at the movies yesterday?"
"Hell no," Michelle replied. "That's none of his business,"
"Good," she said. "Because I don't want anyone talking about that."
Michelle couldn't see how that was going to be possible considering Julie and Veronica knew.
"Don't worry," she said. "I won't tell anyone,"
"I know you won't," Natalie replied.
Michelle and Natalie continued walking to school dreading the day they were going to have.
*****
They didn't see Julie and Veronica until their morning lunch break thanks to them being in different classes. Even so, Michelle and Natalie knew that had been talked about. Nobody said anything to them directly but other students had been talking in whispers and laughing. A few girls even gave Michelle and Natalie dirty laughs. When Michelle caught up with Natalie in front of the library she looked shaken. She didn't want to think about what Natalie had gone through.
