Daniel finally summoned the courage to see Michelle on Saturday. He hadn't told his host parents what was going on as he wasn't prepared to let them know yet. As he drove closer to her house he felt his heart beating faster. When he stopped the car he found himself barely able to walk. As he walked to the front door he wondered if he was being watched. When Daniel knocked on the front door he hoped it would be Michelle that would open the front door. No such luck.
"I'm here to see Michelle," Daniel said with panicked immediacy after Mrs. Slater opened the front door. "Can I come in?"
"Michelle is asleep right now," Mrs. Slater said.
That wasn't the result he was expecting as he assumed Michelle would be awake.
"Oh," Daniel said. "Can I come back later?"
"Michelle's not well enough to see visitors at the moment," Mrs. Slater replied.
"But it's important," he said urgently.
"Daniel, it's obvious why you're here and with the exception of Michelle none of us want to see you right now," Mrs. Slater explained.
And with that said Mrs. Slater closed the door in his face. After Daniel stood there in disbelief for a moment he walked back to Mr. Hughes' car, got in and drove away.

When Daniel came by to visit John and Mr. Slater were out and as Michelle had been asleep Mrs. Slater was the only one that knew that Daniel had been there. On Monday Michelle felt well enough to go back to school. With the exception of John and Daniel, she was confident no one else at school knew about her pregnancy. As she ate breakfast with John at the kitchen table, he looked at her intensely and that really bothered Michelle.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Michelle asked.
"I'm still angry with you," John said.
"I don't care that you are,"
"I don't want this getting out,"
Michelle slammed her spoon on the table in anger.
"God, John!" she said in frustration. "Can't you just leave me alone?"
John was secretly startled by the way she just spoke to him and he didn't want her to know it.
"Just keep your mouth shut," he said.
Michelle looked at John annoyed, picked up her spoon again and went back to eating her cereal.

By the time it was time to go Michelle got in the backseat without John having to tell her to and that was just with him. On the way to school, John stopped by Natalie's house and Natalie got in the front seat. Natalie was pleased to see her sitting in the back seat.
"Michelle, it's great to see you," Natalie said. "How are you feeling?"
"Better," Michelle said simply.
"That's good," she said. "What were you sick with?"
"Just a really bad stomach flu," John said quickly before Michelle could even answer.
Michelle didn't appreciate that John just did that at all.
"Like John said a really bad stomach flu," Michelle said to Natalie before she turned her attention to John. "And I can speak for myself,"
"So was the stomach flu really bad?" Natalie asked concerned.
Michelle could see him looking at her with a serious look of fear in his eyes.
