When Michelle and John went out on their double date Mrs. Slater and Mr. Slater expected to have a quiet night in. The last thing they expected was a phone call telling them they needed to go to McCarthy Hospital. Mr. Slater drove himself and Mrs. Slater there as fast as he could and they both felt sick all the way there. When the Slaters arrived at the hospital Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Hughes were there waiting for them too, as well as Doctor Adam Schilko.

"Doctor, what happened to our children?" Mrs. Slater asked panicked.

"Michelle, John, Natalie, and Daniel were hit by a drunk driver," Doctor Schilko said. "Michelle, John, and Natalie survived but I'm afraid Daniel didn't survive the crash,"

"Oh, my God!" Mrs. Slater said in shock.

"What about my daughter's baby?" Mr. Slater asked.

"I'm afraid the crash resulted in a miscarriage," Doctor Schilko said. "I'm truly sorry,"

"Can we see them?" Mrs. Slater asked.

"At the moment they're being treated for their broken bones," Doctor Schilko explained.

"Oh, Jesus!" Mrs. Slater said.

"I promise they're going to get the best possible care and they will make a full recovery," Doctor Schilko explained.

"How will they recover from this?" Mrs. Slater asked hysterically. "My little girls lost her baby and her boyfriend is dead!"

"Honey, we'll get through it," Mr. Slater said. "Don't worry,"

Mr. Slater turned his attention back to Doctor Schilko.

"Thank you, doctor," he said.

"You're welcome and if you need anything just let the duty nurse know," Doctor Schilko replied.

Doctor Schilko walked away and Mr. Slater hugged Mrs. Slater. As Mr. Slater held Mrs. Slater in his arms he had never felt her shake so much.

Later that night the Stranger materialised in Michelle's hospital room to watch over her while she slept after her operations. Both of her legs were in plaster. Even though the Stranger felt sorry for her he thought that Michelle looked really beautiful.

Mrs. Slater and Mr. Slater were advised to go home but after what had happened to their children they didn't want to go anywhere. So they sat in the waiting area downstairs. It had been hours and Mrs. Slater was still crying.

"What are we going to tell Michelle?" Mrs. Slater asked.

"We'll tell her the truth," Mr. Slater said. "There's no other option,"

At that moment Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Hughes walked over to Mrs. Slater and Mr. Slater.

"Mrs. Slater, Mr. Slater," Mrs. Hughes said. "I just want you to know how sorry we are for what happened tonight. We tried to stop your son from leaving but he wouldn't listen to us,"

Hearing that brought out feelings of anger in Mrs. Slater and she stood up quickly.

"You tried to stop him?" she asked. "Is that what you really believe?"

"Yes, because it's true," Mr. Hughes said.

"Okay, then let me tell you what's true," Mrs. Slater said. "Michelle told me that she was excited to see the 'Lacerations' double feature tonight but instead you made them see the other double feature. Now isn't that right? Is that what you told us earlier?"
