Chapter 8 : Broken

We were at Dance practice and we were dancing then Ellie fell, " Stop" Birdie yelled and Kayla turned to her " Can I go to the bathroom now?"" Fine" Birdie yelled. Kayla ran out of there. " Ellie , get your head in the game" Birdie said , as me and Rhyme had helped her up " The Dance Regional Expo is Tomorrow night and we have to show Power Surge what they're up against " Ellie sighed and looked at the ground.

"And what is that exactly" Asked a voice , we all turned to see Luna the team captain of Power Surge. We all walked up to her " What are you doing here?" Asked Birdie." You can't dance and tell time? It's 4:01 that means practice is over , our turn now". I could tell that she hated us for no reason at all , with all her smart remarks , I saw Quinn she was looking down at the ground not looking at us , she couldn't look at us

"It's 4:01?" asked Ellie " I gota go , Bye" Ellie ran out of the Gym. " We were just finishing anyways " Said Birdie, Luna looked at her team then back at us " We saw" she remarked. We all walked out of the Gym while Power Surge was laughing at us. We all walked into the hallway and sighed " To be fair we did only have the Gym booked by 4:00". Birdie shook her head , she looked stressed out " But Guys , we can't worry about them we just need to focus on doing our best tomorrow night " Rhyme said and I nodded I agreement.


"Exactly , What else can we do?" Asked Kayla , "Uh, Stake them out and steal their moves?" suggested Rooney. " That's it!" explained Birdie , " What" Said Rhyme , " No' said Kayla , but Birdie shushed them " No , no time to talk, we've got a plan" Said Birdie. Birdie walked away with Rooney." This is not going to end well" said Tk , we all nodded our fears.

After that we all were waiting for Birdie , they weren't here yet , " Where is Birdie?" Asked Ellie. " She's out on a secret mission" Said Tk. Kayla said sarcastically " Cause those never back fire"." It's gonna be great , I'm here to help you all win" Tk said. " I don't think so" I whispered over to Rhyme and she whispered back " We need to have faith" .

"But no actually , how late is this gonna go?" asked Ellie, "Why" asked Rhyme looking at her , "Nothing , I just need to be somewhere later" She stood up and left. I looked at where she was " Something it wrong" I said.

Kayla had gotten up and left and I stood up and was about to leave when Rhyme gave me a piece of paper " Rock You Hair" it read. " Is that why Ellie been acting so weird" I asked, Rhyme shrugged and she put it on her back pocket.

We had went to Birdies house , "Okay squad listen up" Birdie called. " The only way we're gonna crush Power surge is by listening to me" She yelled. " Do exactly as I say , Practice starts now" She clapped her hands " Let's go" , "Wait" called Ellie , we all looked at her " We've been practicing for a very long time ". Birdie said sarcastically " Oh , I'm sorry , do you have something better to do?". Ellie looked her dead in the eyes " Yeah , actually , I have somewhere to be" she stammered , " If that's the case , you better leave now" Birdie said.

"Wait , really , is this some kind of trick?" Ellie asked looking around." Get lost!" Birdie yelled pointing to the door. She stood up and left." Do you think this is about Henry?" asked Kayla "I've been meaning to talk to her". Rhyme bend down and got the paper from Ellie's backpack. and showed it to us , " I think it's something else entirely " she handed it to Kayla , she read it then slowly looked up at Rhyme and me , Birdie took it right out of Kayla hands. She read it , the she threw it on the couch in anger and stormed off.

At the Dance Expo , we were all backstage waiting for our turn. Bridie was pacing the ground back and forth, Where's Ellie?" Explained Birdie, "Um you sent her away from Rehearsal" Kayla said.

"Well I change my mind , Get her here now" Birdie was anger and even more stressed out. " I don't think we can do that" I said. She looked at me , her eyes blazing " Why not" she asked " What if she doesn't want to come to the Dance expo" I said. she shook her head." We can do the dance without her , it's just the Expo and not the Compaction" Kayla said.

"just the Expo? , just the Expo?" Birdie yelled" Somebody call her". We all looked at each other , we all said " She doesn't have a phone". Birdie just starred at the couch we were sitting on she then walked away towards the stage , we were next after Power surge. We followed Birdie and all put our heads up " Oh no" said Rhyme , as Power surge danced , it was our dance.

When they walked off the stage , Luna said " Good luck topping that". Quinn had spoke to Rhyme " Break a leg Rhyme" , Rhyme rolled her eyes " Break my heart again Quinn" . We stood there backstage when Tk yelled " Come on guys , your up" We all walked onto the stage as we got called. and we danced the same dance as Power Surge and when we were done The crown murmured and not a lot of people were clapping. Birdie had stormed off the stage and we just stood there until we left.

" You call yourselves the Chicken girls?" Asked Birdie " more like a bunch of headless chickens" I looked at her " Excuse me" I said, " What was that , out there" Birdie asked." We did the best we could" Said Rhyme , " If that was your best-" She pointed back to the stage " You should three should all quit right now".

I looked at Rhyme and Kayla when Rhyme spoke " Your being so Intense". Birdie shot back " Really , Rooney chose the newspaper over us , Quinn choose Power surge over us and Ellie chose who knows what over us "." I'm trying to hold this Team together". Kayla looked at her " Well , you not doing a very good job of that"." Why didn't you tell us we were stealing their moves?" Rhyme yelled. Birdie yelled back " Because I wanted to win" We looked at her and said nothing.

After the Expo and the after the next day of School , me and Rhyme were sitting on a bench waiting for our dad to come and pick us up. Tk had walked over to us " Hey , Rhyme , Emma' I looked at him and rolled my eyes " I know thing didn't go too well , but I'm still proud of you both for how hard you tried". Rhyme smiled " Thanks", " You know Ace invited me to this Teen club and he said a lot of girls are gonna be there". Rhyme looked at him , her smile faded " Wait , what?". Tk nodded " Yeah he really hyped it up".

"Why on earth are you telling me this?" Rhyme asked. "Um--" Tk tried to think of the right words. " Rhyme , Emma" it was our dad I stood up and left Rhyme and Tk but she later came to the car. We had found where Ellie had gone and me and Rhyme had went to see her sing , " I want to you you sing" Rhyme said after Ellie said that no one would. Ellie's face lit up and she ran over to us " You both came" she pulled us into a big group hug. " You have an amazing voice and I wanted to see it" I said.

"Wait , how did you even know?" asked Ellie." I stole the flyer from your bag" Rhyme said smiling. Ellie's face changed " How was the Expo , is Birdie gonna kill me?" she asked. " don't ask" I said , " But defiantly yes" Rhyme said.

" But you could make it up to us and go out there and sing" I said. Ellie smiled at us both , " We believe in you" Rhyme said. "Hey , sorry I don't mean to interrupt , but times ticking" the Stage manger or what I think is the stage manager said. I took Ellies hand " Come on , you got it , you can do this". Ellie smiled " Okay , I'm in" she said and we all went beside the curtain and Ellie climbed up the stairs but before playing she looked at us and we smiled at her. We gave her a thumbs up, She then played the piano and sang " Gravity's holding me down , Six feet under the ground , and you're trying to breathe but you can't find air and you're wishing you could be anywhere but here"

As she stopped singing and playing the piano , the audience was cheering and clapping her , me and Rhyme were cheering her from backstage , she did amazing. Ellie ran to a guy and hugged him tight , I couldn't see what he had said but Ellie seemed to Enjoy his company and hadn't given a answer to what he had said.
