Chapter 37 : Flew the Coop

I sat down at the table trying to eat Harmony's breakfast that she had made , I wasn't sure if it was good or not. Harmony has went up stairs to go and get Rhyme , After that we had went to school. I had walked away from Rhyme telling her I'll catch up with her in class , I had walked into Cody's mom class room , she had worked there for a long time , she was a History teacher. I walked " Mrs. O'Conner?" I asked, she looked up from her papers," Oh hello , Emma , Kiddo what can I do for you?" she asked , and I noticed that on the board it wrote Ms. Brightman," Did you change your name?" I asked , she nodded " Yeah , me and my husband got divorced" she said ," Speaking of that , what happened to Cody?" I asked , " Well , since we're divorced , he stays at his dads house on the week days and he stays with me on the weekends" she said , " Okay , um is it okay , if I come over and visit?" I asked , she smiled " Yes , and also Emma , since you've been such a nice friend to my family , you can call me Jenna" , I nodded " But not in school" she smiled and laughed , I nodded " Ok" I said , " Okay" she smiled and went back to grading papers. While walking through the halls I had ran into Ezra , I don't know why I was angry , I guess the news that Cody would come to school had gotten me mad ," What are you doing here?" I asked ," I started school , today" he said ," That's great" I said , I'll see you around" I said as I began to walk away ,'Hey , Em wait , did I do something wrong" he asked , I turned around " Your avoiding me , I through that you would be happy to see me" , I sighed " I am , it's just a lot of stuff happened , and I don't need you right now" I snapped and walked away. Ezra followed me and grabbed me by the arm tugging me back" What? , that's not an excuse to be avoiding me" he said ," Ok " I turned around and he let me go " It's been awkward between us and I don't know how to fix it" I said " You made it clear that you like-like me But now that your here I'm not sure if I'm ready to be with you, don't you remember what you promised me?" I asked," That I'll wait for you" he said ," Well you still?" I asked, ' I will" he said ," I'm not ready yet, I just got out of a relationship and I just need you to be my friend , can you do that?" I asked," Yeah , I can do that" he said , I gave him a little smile " Thank you , and I'll text you later tonight , it'll be just like old time" I told him as I walked to class leaving him with a smile on his face.

After school , Kayla had to talk to us , so we all met at the Diner , "Do you guys have any idea what's going on?" asked Ellie as we sat down ,"Not a clue" I said as me , Rhyme and Quinn sat down , " I hope she's okay" said Quinn, Kayla sat at the end of the table " Hey , what's wrong?" asked Quinn , "Whatever it is were here for you" said Ellie ,"my dad's really sick" she said , we were all silent, we didn't know what to say , "I'm so sorry" said Quinn , " Is he gonna be okay?" asked Ellie ,"I don't know" she said "my mom and I are moving in with him to help him with his treatment" , " Your leaving Attaway?" I asked, " I'm just moving to Crown lake and I probably won't be there for long, I hope , I'll be back whenever I can ... hang" she said " I got us all something and I was waiting for the right time to give it to you , but I guess this is it" , she told us to give her our Chicken Girls bracelets and we all did , she then gave us a new bracelet , it was beautiful , " Kayla , this is amazing" I said ," Chicken Girls 2.o" said Ellie ," We fly so high". We all laughed , "Expect you won't be here" said Quinn, we all put our hands on top of Kayla's hand. We are Birds of a feather and we would Fly together no matter what, even for when our wings are broken.
