Chapter 27

{Chris's POV} 

The following morning Ronnie and I are standing outside waiting for the doors to open she spotted Maya and Mike walking towards us Ronnie runs down and hugs Maya. I look at Ronnie and smile they walk over to me. 

"Chris there is no denying that Veronica is yours because she looks just like you." Mike said. 

"Ronnie is a spitting image of me." I stated. 

I noticed Ronnie's shoe was coming untied I knelt down and retied her shoes. 

"Thank you, daddy." 

"You're welcome sweetheart." 

When the principal opened the doors to let the students inside Mike and I walked Maya and Ronnie to their classroom. I knelt down to Ronnie's level and kissed her cheek she wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed my cheek. 

"Have a good day sweetheart, I love you." I said. 

"I will daddy and I love you too," Ronnie replied. 

I climbed to my feet and watched Ronnie walk inside her classroom Mike and I left the school. 

"Hey, Chris mind if I hang out at your place?" 

"I don't mind." 

I walked across the street and climbed into my SUV, I put the key into the ignition and started the engine I turned on the heater. I pulled away from the curb and drove away from the school. When I arrived home, I parked in front of the house and killed the engine I climbed out of the SUV, I walked up to the house with Mike. I opened the storm door and unlocked the inside door and opened it we walked inside the house I took off my jacket and hung it up. I walked into the kitchen and turned on the coffee pot Mike came into the kitchen. 

"I have a feeling our daughters are going to be best friends for life." Mike said. 

"I have a feeling they will be I'm just glad that Ronnie has a friend because she's really shy but she gets that from me." I replied. 

"I'm sorry to hear about your break-up. How did Ronnie take it?" 

"She didn't take it well when Gaia and I told her that we were breaking up she looked at Gaia and said you promised that you would never leave. Ronnie ran upstairs to her room crying and slammed her bedroom Gaia tried to get her to come out of her room it didn't work. I went upstairs to her room Ronnie and I sat on her bed and talked." 

"Do you think you'll date again?" He asked. 

"I doubt it because I don't want to put Ronnie through that." I said. 

When the coffee was ready Mike and I made our coffees and took our coffee mugs and left the kitchen we hung out in the living room. 

"I believe that you will find the right person." 

"How long have you and your wife been married?" 

"Hilary and I have been married for four years." Mike said.

"All I want to do is give Ronnie the loving family that she never got when she lived with my ex-girlfriend Rosalie." I stated. 

When I was finished drinking my coffee, I left the living room and walked into the kitchen I washed up my mug and placed it on the drainboard. I left the kitchen I walked back into the living room and sat down on the couch. 

"I can tell that Ronnie is close to you." 

"She's been like that since I was given custody of her." 

"Didn't her mother care about her?" He asked. 

"No, Rosalie brought Ronnie to me told me that she's my daughter and left her with me along with her belongings which were dirty. I asked Rosalie why was I given custody of a child I knew nothing about. She said that she didn't want to be a mother anymore because Ronnie would want to crawl into her bed and she started asking her about her father. So Rosalie brought Ronnie to me without a care in the world I'm glad I have Ronnie in my life because she has a parent that loves and cares about her." I explained. 

Mike and I hung out and played Halo on my Xbox 360 when it was almost time to get Ronnie and Maya from school, we stopped the game and turned off my Xbox 360. Mike and I put our controllers back and left the living room I grabbed my leather jacket and put it on I grabbed my keys. Mike and I left the house we walked down to our SUV's, I climbed into the front seat I put the key in the ignition and started the engine I turned on the heater and drove away. When I arrived at the school I parked across the street and killed the engine, I climbed out of the SUV and walked across the street and waited for the Pre-K class to come out. A few seconds later the Pre-K class came out of school I spotted Ronnie walking towards me I picked her up and placed her on my hip. 

"Hi. Uncle Chris." 

"Hi. Maya." 

"Did my dad come with you?" Maya asked. 

"Yeah, we were hanging out at my house until it was time to get you and Ronnie from school and he followed me here in his SUV. We'll stay here with you." I said. 

I spotted Mike walking up the street Maya ran towards him, Ronnie wanted to get down she handed me her book bag and held my hand. We walked across the street to the SUV, I opened the backseat door I lifted Ronnie up and placed her in her car seat and buckled her in. I laid Ronnie's book bag on the seat I closed the backseat door I climbed behind the wheel, I put the key in the ignition and started the engine I turned on the heater and drove away. 

"How was your day sweetheart?" 

"It was good I earned a gold star for helping Maya." 

"I'm proud of you." I stated, stopping at a red light. 

When we arrived home, I drove down the street and parked in front of the house and killed the engine. I climbed out of the SUV, and opened the backseat door I unbuckled Ronnie from her car seat and helped her out of the backseat I grabbed her book bag off the seat and closed the door. We walked up to the house I opened the storm door and unlocked the inside door I opened the door I grabbed the mail out of the mail box and followed Ronnie inside the house. I locked the storm door and closed the inside door and locked it, I laid the mail on the hallway table. I hung up Ronnie's book bag I removed my jacket and hung it up she handed me her jacket I hung up Ronnie's jacket. 

"Daddy can we watch cartoons?" 

"Sure sweetie," 

I followed Ronnie into the living room we sat down on the couch I grabbed the remote off the coffee table and turned on the TV. Ronnie and I were watching Cartoon Network we were watching Craig Of The Creek. Later on, that night I was lying in bed playing on my phone when I heard crying coming from Ronnie's room. I laid my phone on my bedside table and climbed out of bed I left my room and walked down the hall I walked into Ronnie's room she was lying in bed crying. I sat down at the foot of her bed. 

"Ronnie what's the matter princess?" I asked concerned. 

She sat up in bed and shook her head. 

"Sweetie, I can't help you unless you tell me what's wrong." 

"I don't have a mommy." 

Ronnie crawled onto my lap and laid her head on my chest I comforted her the best way I knew how I softly sang to her. 

"Would you like me to call your mother?" I asked, stroking her long light brown hair. 

"No thank you, daddy." She sniffled. 

I picked Ronnie up off my lap and climbed to my feet she laid her head on my shoulder I grabbed her Belle doll and left the room. I walked up the hall and walked into my room I laid Ronnie down in my bed I handed her, her doll I climbed into bed. I covered us up Ronnie snuggled up beside me I kissed her forehead we went to sleep.
